Title: Need to improve Beta Testing

Avast needs to improve beta tester. The usual crop of beta testers are not good. I have notice that avast is having many problems everytime u release nw version because of not honest beta testers.

Honesty of the beta testers is purely of your own conclusion so I don't know where you seem to have come up with this load of tripe ::) out of the minimal people who do help with the beta's they report what problems they may have and all reports are collected with logs reviewed and compared so it is basically impossible to be dishonest.

The small amount of people that are able to test are also very few compared to the millions that use the avast program with thousands of different configuration's that cant be fully accounted and tested for.

I am sure that Avast beta testing is a flipping joke compared to other AVs like Comodo or AVG.

Products are pushed out early and there is no quality control or guidelines or anything. There are no rules or formality to follow. You need to test Avast in a VMware to find out bugs. Especially most the avast bug reladed with Win 8 was with user who installed Avast in a new Win 8 system. The comments of flipping testers are redicious and they don't do any test at all to improve Avast.

Comodo got people like

http://www.youtube.com/user/languy99 . People like him are geniune testers. Tell about about any Avast Uberevangelist like that? Everyone is noob.

Avast got flipping testers

AVG beta testing

Sorry but you have absolutely no clue what you're talking about. Before it even goes to public beta test there is internal testing. I hope you do realize that avast! userbase is enormous and when you have so many users with so many different computer and software configurations, there will ALWAYS be problems. And if you think Comodo and AVG don't have them you're greatly mistaken. In fact AVG for example never bothered to fix idiotic GUI bug in version 2011 i think. I've reported itduring beta test and again when the product was already in final stage. And they never fixed it. It got fixed when they released 2012 version ages later. avast! team never does that. Sure they postpone non-critical stuff but they fix it quickly compared to most others.

As for the languy99, his tests are useful and i enjoy watching them but his knowledge is very limited and he often makes really noobish mistakes in some videos. I wouldn't exactly be basing any kind of data on his info.

If you have a problem, report it. If you don't, well, they can't fix what they don't know...

So far this is the first time you have mentioned anything about having an issue with avast, you've just been ranting rubbish statements and my qualifications have nothing to do with the beta testing or you for that matter ::) If you have an issue with the latest version of avast you should have started a thread of your own stating your problem and system type and other security installed.

For the time being you should read here to see if a patched driver may fix your problem http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=108441.msg858780#msg858780

did you even read the links I posted in my previous post...Languy is a joke and youtube tests are utter crap and unreliable as none of the tests show the testers grabbing links in real time from malware black lists etc ...go to wilders forum and learn some ethics of anti-malware forums  8)

I fail to see the usefulness of a comment like this. What do you suggest to make it better? I would like to know step by step what you would do differently.

Here is a link which references many other links regarding BSOD in Windows 8. It also
includes comments from the avast team.

http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=108441.msg858780#msg858780

Beta testing is open to the public. Anyone can test the software. Maybe you should become a beta tester. This way the completed product will be
perfect every time. You ought to be able to guarantee this considering your honesty and credentials, right? Don't ask me how I know you are honest and have superior credentials. I just know these things. Much like you know that the avast beta testers are dishonest. I have no facts to back this up.
I'm just making an ignorant claim. So next time there is a beta release, I hope to see your name in the beta forum providing feedback. This will
give me great confidence that there will be absolutely no bugs in the RC or Final Release.

Wheather someone is using the free version or paid - they are all given the same help here on the forum, many of us users that use the free version or paid also provide there time here free of charge to help other users where possible so please don't throw abuse at us and you wont receive it in return, like I mentioned earlier you did not come to this forum stating you had any issues, you simply started complaining and bashing those that help ??? as I also mentioned prior please go to the link provided and see if the patched driver fix solves your problem http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=108441.msg858780#msg858780

What's the current model for Avast Antivirus Beta Testing?

Beta testing any program involves a certain degree of risk by the tester.   It is recommended that people do not install and test beta versions of software, especially operating system and anti-malware beta software on their main computer/s but only on a computer that can get broken by the beta product without negatively impacting the user's ability to do what is they normally do on a computer.

It is also incombant upon the user to carefully weigh the risks of immediately installing a new RTM version of operating system and anti-malware software.    I purchased and downloaded W8 RTM last month right after it was released.    I have not upgraded from W7-SP1 even though I could do it right now.   I have also ordered the DVD of W8-RTM as precautionary measure.   Sometime in the future when it appears that  the all of the major software applications that I intend to install on W8 are running without any major problems.  (I track this via the forums of the apps I use) I will install W8.   No idea when that may be.

When dealing with a new operating system it is best to be very careful about just assuming all 3rd party apps will auto work with the new OS just because the apps were beta tested and have become a RTM vesion of he software.  Sometimes all can go smoothly but the risk is not worth the reward.   No need to the first kid on the block to have the new toy.

Having said that I just want to relate a short story about what very recently, like earlier this week, happened to me regarding a software app I am beta testing     I had been and still am beta testing this product which I shall call "beta x".   Anyway clear out of the blue I got an email from tech support of beta x.   They told me that they they wanted to thank me for beta testing beta x.   Therefore they offered to extend my current 3 computer license one year of their current  RTM software product of which beta x is an upgraded software praoduct.  The license will be portable from their currently released product to the beta x once it becomes RTM'd .

I thought that was very nice of them especially since they did not make this offer to me if I were to beta test beta x but only after the fact.    I fully expect to upgrade to the RTM version of beta x once the RTM vesion is released.
