Title: Can't remove 24X7 HELP
Post by: WENCH1109 on November 08, 2012, 04:58:55 PM
M mom got this on her computer and I can't remove it.
My dad called them this morning but got this song and dance almost word for word:One time fix $99.00 and, they'll even give you Microsoft Security Essentials FREE for LIFE. (aren't they generous.)
For their 24/7/365 unlimited service, the price is a mere $239.00 and covers you for an entire year.

Can you help me remove it please?

If your Mom has a restore point that was created just before this program was installed,
I suggest you use it instead of the uninstall method.

Why is the restore point method better than just uninstalling it?

Thanks for the help

What using restore point will do is disable the add-on, (hard to tell from here what it is) and then go and ask essexboy to remove the inactive remnants left over.  He is very good for that.

Also could be a rogue/trojan program, one that pretends to do what it says it does.

Using restore will not remove the program; but bob3160 is pointing out you possibly may wind up having worse problems if you try to uninstall.  You want to disable it first; restore is a way of doing that.  I have no personal experience with this program/add-on; essexboy does and will.

Kind of looks and sounds like MySpeedyPC ads on the telly one sees late at night.  Not at all worth the money asked for.

You can start a new post at Viruses and worms if more help is needed, and link back to this one if you wish.

Using a System Restore point would also eliminate any registry entries this unwanted software would have placed there. :)

I just removed this and PC Fix Speed (which came together) using these tools recommended by: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/487472/need-help-removing-pc-speed-fix24x7-help-malware/

These are really nasty pests that caused all kinds of pop-up windows, sometimes if you just clicked on a bar to sign into a frequently visited site and other times by just moving the mouse across a page.

It slowed down the computer enormously and while it was on, connection was not as strong.

Also, in task manager, before it was removed there were 107 processes running; after removal there were 89.

There was one significant thing I forgot in my earlier post.  All the main services I tried to access in Windows were not accessible - one of which was System Restore.

It was installed on a refurbished laptop that I purchased. I used Revo Uninstall to remove it, as I could not uninstall it the traditional way. Revo is free and it caught 24x7 Help the first time I ran it.

Installing Restore Point Creator (http://www.toms-world.org/blog/restore_point_creator) not only allows an easy way to create - delete restore points but also bypasses blocked access.
