Title: Old Versions of avast! Professional Antivirus?
Post by: tmcclelland47 on November 18, 2012, 02:30:36 AM
Hi. I have an old computer running Windows 2000 Professional SP4, because XP is slow on it, but it's too fast for 98, so it seems that 2000 was a happy medium. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone could please give me a link to avast! Professional 4.8. I really like the UI of it, and I just found my old key that I never used.

I like the interface of 4.8 better than the newer ones, and it starts up much faster with the 4.8 Home version than with anything newer.

@ tmcclelland47
Well support for avast 4.8 ceases at the end of this year (just over a month away), so it is effectively on life support.

Your old license is likely to have long expired as its license period starts at the time of purchase.

Hello tmcclelland47!

I like the interface of 4.8 better than the newer ones, and it starts up much faster with the 4.8 Home version than with anything newer.
This is your opinion.
But I have seen: avast! 7 uses significant less of the computer resources compared to avast! 4.8 AND you have a better protection.
Windows 2000 together with avast! 7 Free has a memory consumption of approx. 120-130MB at idle (direct after startup).
So there should be enough resources for the additional programs.
For example: as you can see in my signature, I use avast! 7 on a PC with 256 MB RAM (800 MHz PIII) and I cannot say that the PC is very slow.
But nevertheless:
1. pay attention that there are not too many programs in the autostart section of your computer.
2. install SP4 and UR1 before installing avast! 7 Free.

Well support for avast 4.8 ceases at the end of this year (just over a month away), so it is effectively on life support.
Your old license is likely to have long expired as its license period starts at the time of purchase.
+1  :)

I have sp4 on it, but I have absolutely no idea what UR1 is. Could you tell me what it is, INGBEAN?

It is Update Rollup 1 for Windows 2000 SP4 (KB891861).

Please make sure you have the Update Rollup 1 installed (it's required for avast!):
