Title: Avast Rescue disk 2012 / Avast update
Post by: JerryOS on November 23, 2012, 04:35:49 PM
I update my Avast software recently and ran a full scan on my computer, The scan found multiple trojans and after the scan a message said to reboot to elliminate the malware. I re-booted and the computer made the normal startup noises but I got a blank screed (black). It re-booted several times and got the same result.

So my question is, If I get an Avast Rescue disk will it boot without getting into the bios setup. I can't do this because I have a blank screen
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks

Hi,

It seems that the Dell monitor i have went into sleep mode so I could see just a blank screen even when i hit the mouse or any key. So I had had a hdmi cable installed to my TV monitor and I attached it again and now I can see what I was doing again! STRANGE!

Another unusual thing is I decided to run the pc withoout the disc and it booted and a message came up   "Config update stage 3 of 3 , do not turn off computer. So I left it and keeps re-booting, So I turned it off.

Here is the results from FRST:

OK it is a 64bit Vista system and the configuration screen indicates that a windows update is in progress

So what we will do now is install the recovery console and get the system rolled back to an earlier restore point

Download the following two programmes to your desktop :

1.  WiNTBootIc (https://dl.dropbox.com/u/73555776/WiNToBootic.exe)
2.  Windows Vista RC 64bit (http://www.forum.probz.net/index.php?/files/file/20-windows-vista-recovery-environment-iso/)

Extract wintoboot to your desktop
Insert a USB drive of at least 1GB
Run Wintoboot

Drag and drop the Windows Vista ISO to the programme in the space indicated
Tick the Format box and accept the warnings
Press Do It

You will see it progressing

Insert the USB into the sick computer and start the computer.  First ensuring that the system is set to boot from USB
Note: If you are not sure how to do that follow the instructions Here (http://pcsupport.about.com/od/fixtheproblem/ss/bootorderchange.htm)

When you reboot you will  see this.
Click repair my computer

Select your operating system
(http://i1224.photobucket.com/albums/ee362/Essexboy3/RepairVista_7277202.jpg)

Select System Restore
(http://i1224.photobucket.com/albums/ee362/Essexboy3/RepairVista_7277.jpg)

Select an appropriate restore point
Then once done reboot to windows and let me know if it is OK
