Title: avast! Antivirus USB
Post by: ReconVirus on November 24, 2012, 10:59:07 PM
I don't know about you guys, but I simply just LOVE this antivirus program. I love the look, I love the feel of it, and the fact that it actually works! ;D

Which leads me to ask the question. Is there any plans to making a USB or portable version? something light weight that can be stored on a USB (obviously) or portable HHD

Nothing major just simply a scanner that would scan files on someone else computer before putting that file on your USB or portable HD. An example of this would be something similar to Norton Power Eraser which is somewhat of a back up if you cannot start the computer in Normal mode, you can run this tool in Safe mode. (Yes I know, avast!'s boot scan solves this problem) This could really be useful to say... Helping a friends or client that needs their PC to be worked on but simply cant because of all the malware or unknown application on their PC

Or another example is using a PC at the library for some reason to download a program but just in case you want to make sure its virus free before your port it over to your PC. This would be another great source for supplying info for the FileRep and streaming updates.

I have been asking for that for about a year and a half.
A portable scanner would be great.  :)

Is their any reason why it was discontinued? Because in my opinion I think this would have been a really great addition to the produce list of avast

It also wasn't free as far as I recall, so there would also have to be sufficient numbers of buyers to make its development worthwhile. It also wasn't for bog standard USB drives but for the so called U3 smart drives.

We created a bootable Linux USB flashy drive, and transferred the avast! rescue CD to that flash drive, and now we have bootable avast! USB!
