Title: unservicable
Post by: Amias on February 12, 2005, 12:26:57 AM
I have been using Avast for approximately 1 year with no problems..........until now :'(

My system runs Win 98SE , outlook exp. , I.E.6 with Zone Alarm Pro.

I have been unhappy with I.E.6 and found a program that eradicated it from my hard drive.. :D

I now run Mozilla Firefox but when I started Avast 4 I get the following messages:

' Storage cannot be created for the 'Splash' task'  ,

' Configuration is not loaded properly. Error:dbsCreateObject' ,

' Program cannot save parameters to storage. Error:dbs CreateObject'

I have since reinstalled IE6 and uninstalled Avast and reinstalled, but get the same error message. ???

This anti virus program was a god send  8)  and any help you can give me to get it working properly would be appreciated. ;)

I have also tried using the program configuration utility that is in program.....this will not open. :-\

And I have downloaded your external utility program....again to no avail.  :-\

Please help. ???

Change ODBC to XML in avast4.ini

Remember that Avast needs (parts of) IE to show the help.
If you don't like IE, just leave it on the system.
Many other applications also need (parts of) it to function.
Just use another browser.

Yep, I agree. If you run a Windows system, it's crazy to try to completely remove IE from your computer. You don't have to use it, so don't. Go download Firefox and be happy. :)

Neiby and Eddy thanks for the advice.............I'm up and running again :D

I realise now that IE is integral to Windows.........it was just a pest when it fired up due to a toolbar that had latched onto it..........caused all sorts of problems.

Any how thanks again. ;)

I suggest that you click on Eddy's signature and clean up your system. You need IE but, you also need a clean system.
