Hi all,
we recently launched a recommendation program, it's still in "open beta" so any feedback is appreciated.
The recommending is simple:
Create or login to your avast account
Go to the Recommendations section
https://my.avast.com/recommendation
Share the unique link via social networks or email.
When somebody installs avast using your unique link and start using avast, you will get a credit for it and see it on your dashboard. (this can be delayed up to 24 hours after the installation)

When you reach 7/14/21 friends to install and use avast, you will be eligible to download a free license of Internet Security for 1/2/3 years. The maximum is 3 year license valid from the time the first license was issued. (basically you reach 7 friends, we give you a license for 1 year and if you get another 7, the license will be prolonged for 1 year...)
We tried to make it as easy as possible for you, and we know that's quite easy to cheat, but on the other side we are able to detect suspicious accounts and disable the licenses, so please do not cheat ;-)
Our goal is obvious: Motivate and reward people recommending avast and to grow our userbase.
So start recommending and write me your opinions and ideas.

The cheating thing is a challenge. E.g. I already have 12 obscurely-named email addresses I could "refer" to if that was my intention.
I just wish it had started sooner. None of my previous referrals count. :(

The thing is that while I do that, when registering Avast I always put a bogus e-mail address and tell the computer owners to enter their name and e-mail address to register Avast after expiration of 1 year license. It would be awkward to ask the clients what their e-mail address is, it would be kind of intrusion of privacy.
So I wanted to know if you guys consider it wrong if I use that referral link when I'm installing Avast on their computers? Basically they will register it with their own e-mail address (hopefully) after 1 year when renewing license. Although free version of Avast is enough for me, just wandering.

I used to love this product, but on my newly installed Windows 8 it is like alpha software. I cannot recommend while there are so many issues. Sorry. I just bought a year license for ais, but I had to uninstall and use another product. :(

no it doesn't matter what email address they will use for registration, so you can use your referral installer. But I recommend to rather not registering with bogus email and ask the user to register itself immediately in the 30-day trial period. Now the registrations are attached to creation of avast! account.

You'd be surprised how many people don't know how to do a simple thing as register Avast :)
I used to leave it to them to register when I started, and many would call me 30 days later to ask what to do cause their antivirus "expired". Weird thing is that many of them never run a scan either, even though I tell to everyone to run a full scan once a month.

Since years I'm helping seniors in handling a computer concerning OS, AV- and other SW. I'm a senior too and I think this offer comes too late for me.
On about 20 computers I installed 'avast Free' including registratation and everybody is still satisfied with it. What more can I do?

i am thinking of coming back to Avast myself as for years been off . Been using AVAST IS for one year . It expired and i did not renew . I have been constantly given other AV or IS pro licenses from friend but never AVAST. There have been 3 to 6 months free licenses but i hate this king of installations with warnings types such as ( 5 more months and you will be without protection . renew as soon as possible. )
Long story short. I liked Avast back in the 4*** edition ( all were very cool back then)
I will install it tonight on my new computer and see if i can get myself convinced to keep it . Avira is giving me a hard time lately and AVG has let me down too. Lets see. At all cases i have been installing AVAST on friends or recommended it occasionally .

Hi YLAP,
no you don't have to download twice. You can download just once and then install on how many machines you want. The machines must be live of course ;-)

I'm one of the "old ones" too. When I recommend avast to anyone they all say they are satisfied with the other ant :-\ :-\ivirus program they already use.
My free year is expiring very soon. Is there any way I can extend or renew for free?

This is a new initiative and you would have to qualify as per the instructions in the first post and throughout this topic.
I don't know what you mean by your free year, if you mean you have the avast free version, then you are able to renew it when the time comes for free. You start to get a reminder when you have 28 days or less to go the GUI > Maintenance > Registration section changes to allow you to renew.
If it is the avast Internet Security (AIS) you are talking about, then that can only be achieved by qualification requirement in post 1.

That's very good going in a relatively short time. Me, whilst I still recommend avast I don't give any referral link from the my.avast.com account. I have been using the free version of avast for over eight and a half years and have also been using my Outpost Firewall Pro for even longer and I really like that combination.

Well till now I was using the free version since 4.7 times but still...i will use the full suite with pleasure )) and i'm not a big fan of many security related programs on one machine, i like to keep it simple ))

Ok I download avast free setup from my promo link and install it on 7 friends PC so that would get me 7 invites right not necessary to download 7 times the same setup from my promo link on 7 friends PC.
And 2nd question what if I renamed the setup downloaded from my promo link and then install it on my friends PC will it still count as a invite in my account.
Just curious to know and excited already got 5 friends two more to go for 1 year license.
Also this makes me think that if i successfully invite 7 friends and use my license so would the friends invite count come down to zero :( or will it stay on 7.
And if it will stay on 7 then I should invite 7 more and then I would get a two year license right even though I'll be using the 1 year license.

1. yes one download and as many installs you want
2. no renaming, otherwise you might break the recommendation code
3. it will stay on 7 and you can continue to reach a next level 14 or 21 friends and to get extra year or 2

Hello to all.
I obtained enough recommendations for receiving the AIS license, but now I have legal proceedings with the shop which has sold to me defective laptop. It should be returned, and then I can buy the new computer. The process will take about two months :'(. Therefore I don't want to download the free license for AIS now. I want to obtain it after acquisition of the new laptop. In this regard, I ask official avast support staff to answer two questions:
1) How long will the recommendation program last? Whether the registered/involved users will be notified on its termination?
2) Whether I will be able to use the right to the free AIS license after the promo end? Probably I’ll pass the notice of promo ending due to the lack the computer for regular Internet connection.
P.S. Excuse me for my weak English, it is not my native language.

Bobius, the license is valid from the day it is issued and not the day you apply it in your computer (into avast!).
So, it will be valid from the day you've earned it (and will last less if you only apply two months later, for instance).

I know very well about it. So still not issue the license. I am waiting until my laptop problem will be solved. Pointless to download the license now, and activate it after a few months, which will be lost in vain. So, again, my question is - could it happen that the promo will suddenly end, and I will not be able to issue the license?

How does one recommend avast!?

How do you know anyone has even taken up your suggestion to be able to say it seems not to have worked, e.g. what hasn't worked ?
People have to presumably either have checked out your facebook profile/wall or posts, etc. Sorry I don't know the correct terminology, I flatly refuse to sign up to any social networking site. Then they would have to click the link to download avast, next they must install it and then register it. It is only that that point having registered avast that your account would be credited with your recommendation.

hello guys!
i'm having an issue downloading my free 1 year license from the referal program. just got 7 install in the past days and every time i trie to download the license i get a server can't comunicate error.

You didn't mention the country in which you live. It's possible that it effects your ability to download the file.

You on;y have to read this topic to see that it isn't fake.
Downloading isn't enough as I have said before, they have to install it and importantly register it before it is credited to your referral link. Check if they have done that.

Now if someone is just going to install register and uninstall where is the credit in that and it would look suspiciously like someone trying to cheat.
Now you talk about avast not being able to solve his issues when we know nothing about them. If they have a problem report it in the forums and we will try to resolve it for them.

I use and recommend avast! because it's an excellent product and because it's kept my system safe and secure for almost ten years.
I guess we all have different reason for recommending or, not recommending a product.

Sounds like cutting off your nose to spite your face (with over fours years of personal experience), don't like the frequent reminders just renew and let avast continue to protect your system/s. The idea is protection and throwing out avast over frequent reminders, is like throwing the baby out with the bath water IMHO.
For me the paid users really have a point this is too frequent, they don't want to renew early because they have time remaining that they don't want to lose. But that shouldn't happen it should add to the time remaining, if not sales (at) avast (dot) come can correct that with minimal hassle.

i recommend avast and my 5 friends are using now..after these five my 2 more friends are also installed via my link but these two are no added in my friends counter....so i think it is a fake offer...
As I have said before, read the whole topic and you will see it isn't fake and that they not only have to install it they have to register it before it can be credited to your referral, that may take a little time to do.
If it were fake do you think that any would have been credited to you or that others have already received their licenses.

I'm using the paid version and your second sentance is more to the point. By the way I am a mature user, a business user at that and so my point isn't a money issue. The bottom line is the product is OK. I don't need to be badgered into to purchasing a renewal before its due date or without making my decision on what product I want to use for my company.
The only people cutting their nose off to spite their face is Avast. I would have been quite happy to renew across all my pcs without all the hassel but this badgering is way over the top. Pop ups on every pc and the emails are just a joke.
I won't be renewing with Avast, its a closed book in our case due to the bad experience but maybe some valid input for Avast on why long term customers are leaving them.

I am not quite sure if i'm doing it right with this recommendation thing, because when ever i install the avast free antivirus software on a new computer or computers that i repair , i'm using my e-mail address because many of the clients don't have their own e-mail. So far i used the recommendation link on 2 computers , 1 of them is added as my credit and the other is not (but both of them are connected with the account in "All devices" menu). I do not complain for that i just wanna know if i should always use new e-mail address? Thx in advance.

I will not upgrade to it myself, so do not have firsthand knowledge. Currently, my friend has something going on that I've never seen before. She did not do as I told her when she asked by dumping the pre-fab (lol) crap and installing avast! before doing *anything* else. Now she has this huge malicious problem (lol again). She paid for Frontier. She called them today and "they didn't secure me as I'd requested, so they did that and I'm good now." No, in fact, she's not good now. *sigh*
I'm more than happy to spread avast! and have been for years. But she just bought the pc and it's Win8. I'm going to have her install as a backup to her Frontier - I'm sure she'll cling to that since she paid for it. Is this an issue as well w/ Win8? Can someone pls give more info about the Win8 issues (not tons of technical jargon please, I'll need to save this and show it to my technotard friends/clients). Thank you!

I have to agree with this comment. When Avast works it is GREAT! But when it does not it is a headache. I would say Avast works about 75% of the time. Either no end points or the system is unsecured. I am tired of spend time trying to get Avast to work. I could not recommend it to anytime the way it works now. And, frankly, a virus protection program should work 99% of the time or it is worthless. Right now I am unsecured. And it is sucj a mystery. Rebooting fixes it sometimes and sometimes it takes multiple rebooting. Sometimes it has to be repaired. Once in a while a complete reinstall is needed. These things should not be happening. Those who wrote the software should know the inner workings and what might make it break. There seems to be no reason why it suddenly breaks and then suddenly is fixed.
Like I said, when it works, it works GREAT! PLEASE get to work properly! It is not worth taking chances with no virus protection. An unsecured system is like playing Russian roulette. I'd love to recommend it. Get it working and I will.

My problem is that Avast does not work consistently. Just because it works great for you does not mean it works great for everyone. I'd love to say it works for me like you say. But I cannot say that. Right now I have a red circle with a white X in it in my tray. In other words, Avast is not securing my system. I should not have to keep trying to get Avast to work. It should work right every time. My system is XP SP3. Rebooting works most of the time and repairing works at times. I should not have to do that. I'd love to know your secret to having it work right all the time!

I stated my problem in my message that you responded to. I've also posted in other areas what I was going through. Either there was no answer to the problems or I was told to try repair. So I no longer try to find the answer and jut hope that one of the releases coming along fixes it. I've considered changing to another antivirus program but I do like Avast so that is why I stick with it. It is just frustrating to keep it working. I won't bad mouth Avast but I won't recommended it (yet) either.

I used to love this product, but on my newly installed Windows 8 it is like alpha software. I cannot recommend while there are so many issues. Sorry. I just bought a year license for ais, but I had to uninstall and use another product. :(
well ya the blackout is my problem after logging in it creates a black screen and u have no choice except to repair or remove avast through safe mode
avast should do something about it but they r too cool i am using avg as an alternative what to do,,no choice

Hi, I have a question. I do software and hardware repairs. Whether I do reinstallations of OS or virus cleaning of system I always install Avast Free and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware free for a simple reason that I consider them to be the best free protection out there. The thing is that while I do that, when registering Avast I always put a bogus e-mail address and tell the computer owners to enter their name and e-mail address to register Avast after expiration of 1 year license. It would be awkward to ask the clients what their e-mail address is, it would be kind of intrusion of privacy.
So I wanted to know if you guys consider it wrong if I use that referral link when I'm installing Avast on their computers? Basically they will register it with their own e-mail address (hopefully) after 1 year when renewing license. Although free version of Avast is enough for me, just wandering.

no it doesn't matter what email address they will use for registration, so you can use your referral installer. But I recommend to rather not registering with bogus email and ask the user to register itself immediately in the 30-day trial period. Now the registrations are attached to creation of avast! account.

You'd be surprised how many people don't know how to do a simple thing as register Avast :)
I used to leave it to them to register when I started, and many would call me 30 days later to ask what to do cause their antivirus "expired". Weird thing is that many of them never run a scan either, even though I tell to everyone to run a full scan once a month.

If you tested the referral link and downloaded it yourself you should find the download is the free version.

Too bad it's very hard to get our friends to install avast!, most of them already have it installed and are afraid of uninstalling the program and install all over again. I asked almost all friends on my list if they wanted to do so and the response always was: No. I hope this situation changes soon.
In the mean time, if I may suggest here:
We should be promoted for making publicity as well, depending on where we do it a lot of people should see our propaganda and it should also count for new licenses. We could do it on websites, forums, or even here on facebook, there are a lot of security related pages and lots of potential users who think an Anti-Virus solution is not needed. Hell, we could even tell how security is compromised w/o an AV solution and how avast! does with 0-day malware. I could record a video, post it on Youtube and do a test of your software and show how it does better than other free solutions out there (and even paid ones!).
What you think?

As an avast user, not employee, but that simply isn't possible as this is results based not 'propaganda' as you call it there is no way to determine its effectiveness or even to check that it had been carried out and would require people to monitor it.
So I somehow doubt that this is workable or would be taken up.

I posted this same words on avast's facebook page yesterday, nobody answered except the page admin. This proves:
a) Most people out there already uses avast. As I worked as a technician myself for about 4 years, it's very hard to find people interested on helping a friend with this kind of situation, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it", very hard to find somebody that would uninstall/install again if all is going fine with their PC's.
b) People are afraid to do so.
c) Along with theory A, some average users could use other antivirus solution. Again, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it".
I gotta tell I tried, but it seems impossible. I really like avast, on my tests it even did better than some paid solutions. Problem is, buying it right now seems kind of pointless. In fact, buying any solution seems pointless since (according to my tests) it's free protection handles most 0-day plague very well. Another point is that I only use Windows to play my Steam/Origin games, all my work is done on Linux (I bought Kaspersky for 2 years). Not to mention my facebook friends list has less than 100 people (only close and relatives). I guess I'll just have to be happy with the free one =P
Anyway, great product, totally recommended.

You should have saved/backed up the license file that you downloaded.
I don't know if this resend license function will work in regard to these licenses awarded in the avast recommendations process.

When you used the download link 'once' those qualifying recommendations will have been used and it won't be active, otherwise what is to stop you from downloading more licenses.

The same problem have guys from Russian zone of the forum. Moreover, some of them even can't download a license and get an error like ,,internal server error 100,,. They ask me to find a solution in English zone of the forum or contact the avast support team. Unfortunately, they don't know English pretty well to do it themselves. Let's wait a reply from avast support team. I also send them a message and hope for a positive result 8)

Bob is 100% correct when you apply for a license online the license become active on the day you issue, not the other way around when you've inserted a license in to you're software the date doesn't set when you apply the license. The license become active only when you've registered on day it is issued.

Hi, it can take up to 48 hours to have the successful installations recorder on your account. And of course the installations must be active ;-)

I believe you can use then in any order on any qualifying windows system, so long as you don't exceed the number of licenses you have. So moving them around or to a new system isn't/shouldn't be an issue. Provided that the old installation and license is removed or you would exceed the number of active licensed installations; this would require that you uninstall avast to be able to switch licenses around.
The 1 year license would only be valid for the balance of the license period, it wouldn't give you a full year as the license starts from the date/time of issue and this is validated within the actual license.

Sure, we all make mistakes but when we do, generally we hold our hands up and try to fix the issues we've caused. Not so Avast it seems....
In the meantime, I shall be un-recommending Avast to as many people as I can. Not out of spite but because I don't want them to experience the same cost and effort as I have.
You know about the problem but are frantically doing nothing so far, not even communicating that you are(??) working on a fix to recover our installations. Or even telling us that you are sorry but there is no alternative but to reinstall our systems all over again.

Maybe if you explained your problem and were willing to work with someone instead of simply complaining, you might even be able to solve your problem.
(You'll have to also let someone know exactly what your "problem" is.)
I've used avast! on Windows 8 since early Win 8 beta testing days and have never had a problem with avast! that couldn't be solved.
It didn't however get solved through complaining.

There is about 48 hours delay between the time of installation and appearing on you account. Of course the friends must keep avast! installed.

Initially I usually register the new install as comput@rhu.is (just 'computerhuis' w/ "@" & ".") or the actual owner name of the PC. I even remove any FREE or expired virus-scanners on repaired PCs and install Avast instead.
I certainly cannot recommend any of the PAID services to my customers because I have not used them and will not install trials that could, when removing, interfere w/ the smooth running of my almost 8Tb W7 64bit Ultimate system.
On the facebook recommendations 3 things why I cannot. 1. I do not give advice unless asked, 2. I have no friends :-| and 3. Ummm.. Can't think of the third right now! (Late Rick Perry burn).

:( I uninstalled Avast Free! Why? Because it compromised my personal FireWall settings buy opening certain ports and not allowing them to be closed even though I had them closed in my FireWall. The Port that I wanted closed the most is Port 119 which is the news port and a known hacker port! Also my smtp ports which I do not use! It would have been better if Avast notified me that it was going to arbitrarily open these ports and force them to stay open! The next thing is Avast tries to FORCE Google Chrome down your throat! I hate Google Chrome because it is spyware! Every time I install Avast this is what I get! Good Anti-Spy and Virus protection but the extras I do not need. I will not be buying the software because of this. Sorry guys....

Not once do you mention the compromised firewall, in all honesty I would be looking at why it is compromised. Some firewalls aren't able to determine what is the avast proxy and what is the process being redirected through it.

The current beta of avast! 2014 is windows 8.1 compatible.
Since Windows 8.1 has not been officially released, it's Microsoft that's not allowing compatibility.

Just cheat I can say .. I recommend avast to my 20+ friends and they installed it successfully. But the problem is after getting 14 recommendations avast showing my licence valid just 06 months extra from last activation. Avast is saying that after 14 02 year for 1 pc but its not like that. I fix PCs in every system in my department that I worked and in my other customers for PC repair. and I installed and recommend AVAST free antivirus on every PC that i fixed... that was before, BUT now I think I will not gonna do that anymore...
recently I faced a very big problem because of Avast, in my office we are using Kofax express software for scanning. recently this avast detected that it has a problem on this software and then avast deleted some important DLL files on this software. NOW it's not working anymore. I do a lot of things to fix this problems... all the PCs that we are using is now not working properly (the software that i mentioned)... can you help me fixed this or else i will not gonna use your AVAst anymore...

Well avast doesn't delete by default, it alerts and would send to the chest (which can be restored), for the file to have been deleted the user would have to have changed the default settings or selected delete from the options on detection.
Not knowing the avast version, type of scan and alert, e.g. what file name, malware name was given, it is pretty hard to say what happened after the fact.
So for any one to try and possibly help we will need more information (such as that mentioned above); you should create your own new topic in the viruses and worms (http://forum.avast.com/index.php?board=4.0) forum.

After 2 years of Avast free I have this morning subscribed for a year's membership but now my Avast icon shows an exclamation mark and won't activate (although a scan seems to be possible). My firewall is windows but this problem has not arisen before. Any ideas?? Thanks..

1. Control Panel -> Add/Remove programs -> avast!
2. Click on 'Repair'.
3. Follow instructions.
4. Reboot.

You may need to wait for about 48h before you see friends counted. Ofcouse all of those PCs still have active Avast.

I just want to make sure I'm following the instructions in the right way in order to get the credits to try the Avast Internet Security suite. I shared the link from my recommendations page with a friend, who installed it and is using it and another friend used the link on my facebook page (he also installed it and is using it). That was around 2 days ago BUT the invitation status in my avast page still shows a big 0, so I'm wondering if I missed anything...? I just want to know before I continue recommending Avast this way. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

bob3160: I've never said that there were something wrong with "your" philosophy since it is not only "yours", we are all satisfied of this excellent software, you should know that I'm using it since avast! 4 and I'd always recommended it for its excellent detection performances compared to other products, not for the free internet security licences.
So, in my own opinion,it is entirely legitimate to report an issue with the avast recommendation program, especially when it concerns a lot of users.
A forum is also used for this purpose.

I have alerted that most probably there is a problem in the recommendation system. But we need a technical solution.
All that I know is that the recommendation points get some time to be replicated along the servers.

As I refurbish older computers I was always installing Avast as the preferred free Anti-Virus software, and until the last update I was recommending Avast to everyone (didn't care about any freebie upgrade, it was simply the best free program available).
Unfortunately the newest version is bugged so until the issues are fixed I'm currently just putting MS Security Essentials on the PC's I'm working with for the moment, and not recommending it to anyone. At all.

...on three of my friends computer (all of which live in a different household). I also made sure it was registered before I finished helping them with their computer issues.
I however have not received credit for the referrals. Frankly I am frustrated because I intentionally took the time to help these individuals knowing that I would get to change the virus program they were using to what I believe to be, a superior program. I however, wanted to get credit for my referrals.
May you please look into this issue?

It worked well for me, i managed to get three 3 years licenses, but for some time it's not working, I think I already surpassed the number of recommendations for the 4-th 3 year license, but in the recommendation window it says I got only two recommendations...somewhat disappointing ((

I have been recommending avast since avast 4 came out & have been a volunteer repairer for the elderly & disabled for many years.
In fact I contacted Avast when avast 4 came out, asking if the was a way of being given a master key to register the installations as being installed by me & at that time I was told you would prefer for the person whom owned the machine registered it. Sometimes it's hard as the person/s that I do this for on a lot of occasions do not understand & find it very confusing, they just want the computer up & running, they don't care about anything else as that's what they have you for. So to save a lot of time & frustration for them, I install it using one of my four email addresses & return when they have a warning message or a problem to fix & update the antivirus at the same time. I know I have installed avast on about at least 300 or more machines. I know it's wasted referrals, but I do it for them not for you. You monitor registrations, why can you not supply us with a key & record the amount of registrations, those who are going to cheat will cheat any way, those of us whom do not cheat, will be recognized for our honesty & find it easier with installations.

Same issue here. I recommended at least to 5 friends anc clients (and they installed it on their pc, from their home, so even the ips are different), but the recommendations has not been counted. in the last 5 months no counter increased :/ Very dissapointed. I have 11 friends right now while I could have 16 and I'm trying to reach 21 until my license will end :(

This recommendation for Avast Internet Security for three years does not work. Don't fall for this false advertising. This is just what happen to me.
Ok, I just gave one of my recommendations to a friend, he downloaded from my recommendation link, installed it, registered it, got an email from Avast to confirm and all he got was Avast Free Antivirus not Avast Internet Security and after he registered he did not have the 3 years onto his date.
So the recommendation thing is not working. He just 1 year of Avast Antivirus. So much for recommending Avast to anyone.
It says right here on my recommendation list:

Another confusing thing is, why does it say $99.99 at the bottom?

Ok, third time and it worked. After the download it went on the Internet and did a download or update or upgrade and ask for a restart and I did that and now it is a new icon calling it Avast Internet Security that is good until 2016. I got a new email to click on to activate and now it looks like it's good now.
Anyhow, I am a tech. Imagine a non-tech doing this? They would give up. Still don't know why it says $99.99 on it though below the download link.

Strange since I've used avast! Free on Windows 8 since early beta days and currently use it on several computers running Windows 8.1 without any problems.
Most of these computers use the free version. One computer (32 bit Dell) has avast! Internet Security protecting it without any problems.

On a positive note, I am very pleased with Avast's performance on an older XP computer. I was particularly impressed by a recent incident: I had a webpage warning from Avast, chose to ignore it (I thought I trusted the source page), and almost got a very nasty virus indeed (spoofed RCMP warning, just send $$ to UKASH!). According to various forums, the results of infection could have been disastrous and very hard to clean. Even though I had turned the online protection shield off, Avast still protected me from infection - kudos to Avast! :)

Welcome to the forum.You received a `1 PC 1 Year license which means that license can be used for 1 year from date of issue
on 1 PC - Yours, your Brothers or anyone else you choose to give it too. :)
What you can't do is install it on your PC and then give it to your brother and also have it work on his computer. :)

I ask them about the contest result via mail and they said that have received a lot of material and raccomandations so need more time to evaluate them! Anyway when done they will publish the results in their blog and on social media and also the winners will be notified via mail!

First I'm an avast user not an employee - but I don't believe you're idea to 'share avast! to worldwide social networks.' is likely to have been the first instance of this suggestion. But probably more of a concern is the way you might share avast! with social networks, could be considered spamming in many social networks. That wouldn't be a good idea if it results in bad publicity for avast if it is considered spam.

You can't be your own referrer ???
The link listed on your referral page is what you send to your friends.
If they use that link to download the program and then register the program, then you'll receive credit for the referral.

I don't believe it will work - Bob has explained already that they have to use the referral link in order for the download, install and registration to be linked to your my.avast.com account recommendations.

Well I don't know what their bandwidth might be but the downloaded installation file is currently 86.4MB, that shouldn't eat into many broadband bandwidth limitations.

Please start your own new topic, this one is unrelated and we will try to help. This topic aside from being unrelated, is already so big your post is likely to get lost in it.
The license file license.avastlic should be saved from the email attachment to your hard disk - double clicking that file should automatically enter it for you.

You aren't forced to install MS Outlook (I don't know where you got that from), you can use any email program. All you are doing would be copying and pasting your recommendation link (URL) in the email.
Again they are nothing but suggestions, how you recommend it is up to you.

Once they start using avast they will also start receiving vps updates.
It's by them receiving the updates that avast can tell they are using avast.
Sort of like avast "pinging" for active users. This is how avast knows how many
people are using their software.

Because the link has a unique identifier, so it is known who recommended it - the friend has to install and register it before you can be credited with the referral.

I have reffered and installed your product for people for more than ten years. I even advertised it in retail where I wasn't allowed to do so. Quite literally sold hundreds of customers on avast rather than store shelf garbage. I would go so far as to say that the level I was pushing your product for years gained you a strong foot hold in phoenix az. Yeah I did that. Where is my pat on the back. No proof, just a kid that believed in a product and pitched it to a few hundred customers a day for years.

Ok, the people I have recommended are complaining that they can't download an offline version from the recommendation link. They are on limited bandwidth so, don't want to use an online installer. Can somebody tell how to download the full offline installer from the recommendation link. :D

The unique URL for the download is how they link it to your reference/referral ID, without that I don't know if they can subsequently credit you with the referral.

The idea is good, but the method is winding up the horse from the wrong side ...
When I install Avast, I _ALWAYS_ install it offline from the latest available package directly from the appropriate place (https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=151290.0) ... and NEVER by any kind of "downloadfromwithintheinstalldownloaderinstaller" ...
So binding the reward to the installation from a certain download site is not the thing ... it should be bound to the eMail-licensing. But it would be too easy to just add a "reward eMail field" to the filling-out-fields inside the registration page.
The way should be that the Installer (that person that should get the reward) would have to add the eMail-address of the User to it's "reward list" (a list kept online at avast inside the account of the installer person); and the installer only then gets the reward, when the eMail-address of the User is not only requested for a license, but also that license number was activated in an installation of avast. The reward is given only if all the three things are done:
1. the eMail address of the User is inserted in the list of the Installer account (that is done by the Installer person onto his list inside his account)
2. the user requests a license with that email address
3. that license is used to activate an installation
(point 2 and 3 usually (but not always) are done within one step)
All these three things have to happen within one week - regardless of the order of each (often it is the case that I install somewhere avast direcly at the place of the user from my stick, but he does not have a thick internet access, and I don't know his eMail-address in advance.
So if all these three things happen within one week, the reward is given; otherwise it is void.
That would be the real solution!
Btw: adding some check information (that is displayed at the installation and that the installer person would have to add to the eMail-address) could also be considered, but should not be necessary as it's the activation that counts.

If the person I referred, downloads from that link and installs avast! and registers, I get credit.
If they don't use that link, even if I recommended avast!, I don't get credit.
If they download avast! from that special link but never register avast!, I also don't get credit

I am very pleased with the free avast system. It is fully compatible with the actual use of my computer, only for familiar and personal use and not for business purposes. I would like to thank the management for this service, which I recommend to everybody in the same position as I am.
I am 77 years old and follow through several chanals the daily news worldwide. Since The Van Mechelen Company in Turnhout, Belgium, put me on the avast free system, I never encountered problems and I feel very safe, having grandchildren at the university which make often use of my computer in order to prepare themselves for examinations or look for additional information for their univ courses.
I hope that I can continue to use free avast as long as I am able to use a computer.

There is an option to disable these popups in the paid version (as in the reply to your other post) - where there wasn't in the version relating to the quoted from 4th December 2012.

Your friends have to install avast! using your unique link before you can receive credit.

I'm confused, it says to buy the Internet Security version for $69.99, but on the "Get Your License" tab it shows $19.99?
Anyways, I did recommend it on my facebook and google+, but I'll probably purchase it in the end if it's really $19.99 per year lol.
Edit: Actually, us forum users should get a discount like that for even posting a recommendation under "public" viewing for at least 2 social sites/services. Because, how would you know if indeed a "friend" did install it via the link when it could actually be a "public" and/or anonymous user that clicked on it instead?

Hi, I have a question. I do software and hardware repairs. Whether I do reinstallations of OS or virus cleaning of system I always install Avast Free and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware free for a simple reason that I consider them to be the best free protection out there. The thing is that while I do that, when registering Avast I always put a bogus e-mail address and tell the computer owners to enter their name and e-mail address to register Avast after expiration of 1 year license. It would be awkward to ask the clients what their e-mail address is, it would be kind of intrusion of privacy.
So I wanted to know if you guys consider it wrong if I use that referral link when I'm installing Avast on their computers? Basically they will register it with their own e-mail address (hopefully) after 1 year when renewing license. Although free version of Avast is enough for me, just wandering.

no it doesn't matter what email address they will use for registration, so you can use your referral installer. But I recommend to rather not registering with bogus email and ask the user to register itself immediately in the 30-day trial period. Now the registrations are attached to creation of avast! account.

You'd be surprised how many people don't know how to do a simple thing as register Avast :)
I used to leave it to them to register when I started, and many would call me 30 days later to ask what to do cause their antivirus "expired". Weird thing is that many of them never run a scan either, even though I tell to everyone to run a full scan once a month.
I know this quote seems old, but it is still relevant to the way Avast still gets installed on a system without first asking for the users email. Since, upon install, Avast still has to connect to the internet to download stuff (especially for online setup package) this should be the first thing the installer asks for--if the user wants to use the software for only a 30-day trial or a 12 month free registration to input their email and such.

Using the special link you supply works. Using any other way to download the program isn't going to get you credit.
That isn't any ones fault. That's just how it works.

And in response to your asking about suggestions
1. forum widget on the my avast screen which shows the users recent questions, comments and replies.
2. A private message function - Possibly only to staff sections for security purposes or if to any registered user then the backend has a filter to detect no go areas or words - like crack, hack, cheat, key etc.

As has been explained many times, the karma point system is in beta and no rewards are given at this time.

sorry for bringing this topic up, but is it possible with the recommendation program, to get new license (i have a 3year one that end on january)?
my avast account shows that i have 26 friends throw the special install link....
so i whonder if i can get an expansion\new license if referral to more people. 8)

that doesn't answer my question...
i wanted to know if i keep telling friend's to install using my link, if i can get new licence (i already have the 3 year licence (+21 install's)) if more people install and register so i can get credited...
was i clear now on my question?

I didn't think the referral system is in practice anymore :-\ Avast is working on the Karma points system which is currently in beta.

The referral system is still in place and part of the Karma scheme.
Just go to your my.avast.com account. :)

Hi all,
we recently launched a recommendation program, it's still in "open beta" so any feedback is appreciated.
The recommending is simple:
Create or login to your avast account
Go to the Recommendations section
https://my.avast.com/recommendation
Share the unique link via social networks or email.
When somebody installs avast using your unique link and start using avast, you will get a credit for it and see it on your dashboard. (this can be delayed up to 24 hours after the installation)

When you reach 7/14/21 friends to install and use avast, you will be eligible to download a free license of Internet Security for 1/2/3 years. The maximum is 3 year license valid from the time the first license was issued. (basically you reach 7 friends, we give you a license for 1 year and if you get another 7, the license will be prolonged for 1 year...)
We tried to make it as easy as possible for you, and we know that's quite easy to cheat, but on the other side we are able to detect suspicious accounts and disable the licenses, so please do not cheat ;-)
Our goal is obvious: Motivate and reward people recommending avast and to grow our userbase.
So start recommending and write me your opinions and ideas.

Hey I posted to this over a year now. spoke with customer service via email. reached and smashed my targets and yet still no offer of the license
