Title: Where Avast Virus Chest on Mac?
Post by: BrianG on December 08, 2012, 03:48:29 PM
Hello, and thanks for any help.

I've been running Avast on my mac for a few months now, but I've never found the folder where Avast puts any infected files. I have all the shields turned on, and it has recently warned of possible infected files, but I have no idea where Avast is putting them. I've done a search for Virus Chest, but noting is found.

Thanks again,
Brian

Hi There,
EXACTLY what I would like to know as well!  Where is the Virus Chest??  Is that not where the "bad stuff" is supposed to go, without deleting the good stuff and just putting it there in case you are not supposed to??
How about some help here!!!
Vern

Avast puts the files in a folder called chest-data.  It's located '/Library/Application Support/Avast/config/'.

Also, the files are renamed with just numbers and letters.  If you want to look at the files in their original state, you have to restore them.

I personally don't like this method of dealing with files suspected of being infected, but it is what it is.
