Title: Avast kills network access to Internet
Post by: tcw on December 21, 2012, 05:57:42 AM
I had Avast 7 installed, was playing around with it and properly uninstalled it. Somehow mistakenly installed version 3 from a package I hadn't deleted off the MAC, then uninstalled that when I realized it was an old version, and then reinstalled version 7. Now when I install version 7, I can't go anywhere on the web. Uninstall version 7, everything back to normal again. I think version 3 didn't get totally removed... I accidentally discovered that when two antivirus programs are installed on  the MAC at the same time, this results in no Web access :-) Had Sophos on there before, then removed it,  then everything fine. :-)

For a while Avast 7 was working, like I previously stated, but after mistakenly installing and removing version 3, now 7 won't work right... Ideas? is there a removal utility that can wipe the traces of version 3 off the unit?

OSX 10.6.8

Additional info: if I disable the Web Shield, I can get out on the web...

What exactly are you seeking from the log file?

I know this topic is old, but I removed Avast and forgot about it till now, then had the same problem after reinstalling it again...
