Title: Avast v7.0.1474 and Mail Shield with Thunderbird
Post by: whitedragon551 on December 31, 2012, 07:35:42 AM
I am using Thunderbird to access my Gmail account through IMAP. For the life of me I can not get Avast Free to scan incoming or outgoing emails.

Avast is set to:

Scan inbound mail, outbound mail, and newsgroups.

Rules in the SSL Accounts Ive tried:
imap.gmail IMAP Port 993 SSL
imap.googlemail.com IMAP 993 TLS
smtp.googlemail.com SMTP 587 TLS
smtp.gmail.com SMTP 465 SSL
smtp.gmail.com SMTP 587 SSL
smtp.gmail.com SMTP 465 SSL
smtp.gmail.com SMTP 587 SSL

Thunderbirds Server IMAP Settings are as follows:
Server Name: imap.gmail.com Port 993 SSL/TLS
Authentication Method: Normal Password

Thunderbird SMTP Server Settings are as follows:
smtp.gmail.com Port 465 SSL/TLS
Authentication Method: Normal Password

IMAP (incoming)
Just change 'Connection Security:' to 'None' and the password and port settings will adjust accordingly.
SMTP (outgoing)
As above but the port doesn't change to 25 by itself.

What rules for SSL scanning in Avast should I use?
