;D Thaks again for alwil team! Seems to work perfectly! And the web shield is avesome! ;D
-
Yes indeed,...the webshield is a very important improvement!
-
Oh, and look at the memory usage!! Thank you, Alwil!!
-
Very happy and very thankful that the Alwil Team are very responsive to user requests and are taking a proactive approach in the continued developement of avast!
-
Yes, i too am very happy at the fast development of avast, and the originality of the team to produce an up to date product that keeps malware/viruses etc away. :)
I was very impressed at the speed of response when i was testing/reporting bugs in the BETA version.
Well done Avast team, go have a nice break now ;)

Hello All,
I just installed the final version ( 4.6.603 ) this morning, I had been using the various betas as they were offered. I've ALWAYS thought that avast was a exceptional product. Now with the latest offering it's even better. As someone else stated earlier, the memory usage is reduced considerably in the latest version. Please keep up the outstanding work to all @ avast. Thanks :)
-
Well Lee said it all for me. Good job by all the testers and the Avast Team with the Beta.

;D I've read all comments and and i want to add. I think Nav or kaspersky aren't the best. they are just good, because avast in functionality beats them all AGAIN! I'm loving it! :-*
PS. Cool! I've just became Jr. Member of this forum. 8) ;D
-
avast! 4.6 final works fine now and i even found some nice stuff, but i'm having problems with AEC. Main control appears to be totally broken and i'm looking for alternate method to control this. Hope i'll find anything useful...
-
Seems working well.
Did a scan,, it ran through just fine.
Reduced resident running memory consumption I think.
Had to add client port TCP 119 to the ashMaiSv.exe in Sygate firewall to get the new newsgroup reading protection to work.
As anticipated, A2free doesn't prompt for going to check updates.
But that is a Sygate firewall problem with local proxy issue when I use the new Webshield that I did enable.
Gladly though noticed that I still get prompted for many other applications set to ask with SPF.
Looks like a great job.
-
Thanks ALWIL Team for your excellent work and support! ;)
-
Many thanks to the Alwil Team! ;)
-
This thing is fantastic!!! :o :o :o
I am really enjoying it.
Thanks Alwil!!! ;D :D
-
4.6.603 appears to be working just fine on both of my Win98SE systems. I still have a nagging problem (unable to use Freecell without first stopping On-Access Protection) but its just a minor nuisance.

connie have you seen this thread http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=4707.0 particulatly Igor's reply #3?

Vlk.. yes. Actually igor sent that thread to me months ago when I first came to the forum looking for a fix for this problem. It didnt work but I had forgotten about it and have been just putting up with it. Ill try it now with the new version and see if it helps. Will get back to you on it.
-
Vlik.. cool, that did it. I did a reboot afterwards to be sure and it works fine. THANK YOU :)
Now to fix an Avast unrelated problem (getting a Too Many Parameters message on bootup) lol
It never ends haha
edit: Two for Two. Fixed the above problem as well.. Just a little autoexec.bat editing ;D

Ashserv.exe uses 9.8 mb on my pc (running win98se).
that's almost the same as the previous version ::)
anyone has a less Ashserv memory usage? ???
-
minacross,
Is that linux your on? (i think i heard you mention you use linux before).

Hey guys, I'm new here (quexx88 at Wilder's...hey Rej ;))
I am in a trial of Pro, and I'm loving avast's interface, RAM usage and flexibility.
Great job alwil :)

Looks great, so far -- I didn't play with the beta, so I'm just seeing it hands-on since this morning.
My one concern was that the new Web shield would slow down browsing considerably, but no noticeable difference yet.
-
Hi all this is a great day for Avast! users!
This last version is really cool: on my desktop AshServ.exe was about 14800 Ko, now only 3200 Ko :o
Thanks a lot Alwil team 8)
-
Yes great job alwil!!! Very pleased with 4.6 and how fast you all fixed stuff in the beta!!! Now looking foward to avast! 5.0 ;D
-
Great Job Alwil. Thanks to all of the Avast Team :D
-
I would like to thank all at Alwil... I would also thank all the people that were beta testing who helped smooth out any bugs. Good job! ;D
-
Impressive job! Thank you! :)

I wish I could add another thumbs-up to this thread but I can't. See this thread:

Even with on-access set to normal I have frequent blue-screen crashes that I never had with 4.5.
I have gone back to 4.5 for now :(
-------------
I found the problem:
On Win9x, you have to tell your browser to use HTTP proxy 127.0.0.1 on port 12080.
There isn't any need to set on-access on high if the browser is configured this way as it will detect ALL four test files on the eicar site.....excellent!! However, what isn't excellent is the lack of warning that older browsers have to be manually configured!! :( >:(
-
Great job on the new version. It's an excellent piece of software, and runs great!
I thank Alwil for it.
-
Avast! keeps on getting better! Version 4.6 is superb--I like the net shield that works in Win98se. Thanks to the Alwil team for a fantastic product! I've been telling all my friends how great this program is.
-
The ALWIL Team deserves monumental praise for their efforts in releasing Version 4.6. This is an indication of what a company can do when it puts forth the effort, provides excellent tech support and listens to it's users requests.
I bow to your immense efforts to make this product one of the best.
Congratulations on a fine AV !!!!

I do not know about the 2nd one ::)

I'm not sure how to do it on Win98SE, but on xp you can bring up the VM collum, which is the important one.

Mina, under Win9x, there haven't been any important changes to the ashServ.exe allocation scheme...
-
:) Hey , I was just pleasantly surprised to find myself uploading Avast! 4.6.603 . I wasn't expecting this. I see some changes, like the Web Shield . I'd like to thank all concerned in the Avast! team for this fantastic software and commend you all on keeping so many of us Virus Free for so long. This New version looks exciting. ;)
Cheers, and thankyou.
Tony,
Australia.
P.S. I have asked before if it's possible to create a Boot Disk for Win 98 SE so I can do a " Boot Time Scan " such is available with Avast! in Win XP, and I think it was Eddy who said it was possible, but I don't know how I could create one. I wonder if some knowledgeable person could help me out with this as it would be fantastic to have this option. ???
-
It can't be the same as XP/avast boot-time scan, because it can't use any files from the avast directory in DOS mode.
There really is nothing to stop you creating a win98 system disk (format a floppy and tick copy system files, I think), then see if you can add the avast4dos scanner to the floppy. Check the web site about avst4dos version.
-
Mina, under Win9x, there haven't been any important changes to the ashServ.exe allocation scheme...
OK - Windows XP SP2 here and AVAST 4.6 ashserv.exe uses 9 - 10 MB - isn't this a little bit much?
Greetings
Timo

Thanks DavidR, I'll check out the dos version and study up on Boot Disks.
4.6 hasn't given me any problems on '98SE so another thumbs up to the " Team ".
:P
( Aint this stuff endless; I seem to spend 75% of my time tweaking AV Protection Software...)
Must be working though, as I'm actually looking forward to finding a Virus one day! ;)
-
As a devout follower of Avast and one who has made many switch from commercial bloatwares pretending to be AV software, few words of appreciation, thank you, keep up your good job and also few realize but the Avast Free is as powerful as Avast Pro and this speaks for the big heart from Alwil, others charge way more for lesser software but they have still kept it free. So those of us who can support them by buying Pro, let us do so and keep this wonderful thing alive or else suffer from some super hyped overpriced resource hogs in the market waiting to make our PCs crawl.
It is flattery and I am guilty of it, but team Avast deserves more than anyone else. :)
-
Been using avast for about 2 years now and with each release, new features appear... V4.6 is superb. Although browsing is a bit slow now, I have not complaints...
Keep up the good job guys!! ;D
-
I'm very pleased with the new version. 4.6.603 has worked flawlessly so far -- as have all previous versions I've used. Thank you to all involved for this great software. I've been using avast! for almost a year, and every version gets better.
I wasn't planning on using the Webshield because of Sygate's flaw regarding local proxies, but using port 12080 has solved that problem. I like the extra layer of protection this new feature offers. If it slows browsing down, it's not really noticeable in my case -- web pages seem to load fairly quickly.
-
I can only agree with everyone (or nearly everyone ;)) on here - great new version. Thanks guys.
-
Thanks for the great work making the new version available. I feel the Avast team is working very hard to make Avast one of the best, and the company is heading to a very good direction - reliable and fast technical support. All this attracts more and more loyal Avast users. Good luck, Avast!
