Title: ? about Avast Free Edition
Post by: shaz on February 23, 2005, 06:14:52 PM
Hi,

Until recently I was running AVG 6 FE on my home pc. In the new year AVG required an updgrade to AVG 7 from all it's free virus program users. I went and upgraded to 7 and it came back with the message:

"AVG Free Edition cannot protect File Server, Terminal Server, and E-Mail Server. Therefore AVG Free Edition cannot be installed on any kind of server."

Until that point in time AVG 6 ran perfectly and protected my pc.

I'm running Windows 2000 NT Server on my home computer. The original Windows 98 disc that came with my pc was/is corrupt and I installed Win 2000 NT. Was all I had.  I only use it for personal use. Does anyone know if I can install Avast free edition without any problems?

Thanks much
Shaz

No you can't. For a server OS you need a server AV.

You could have found the answer on Avast's website (http://www.avast.com/eng/system_requirements2.html) as well as on this board.
