Title: agobot virus
Post by: KezzerDrix on February 23, 2005, 09:02:23 PM
Hello,

I have a process called svchost, I am being told this is a virus, however my Avast is not recognizing it as such.  Is it a virus? Any tips for removing it? I am using windows XP.

By whom are you being told?
What is the full path of the file?

http://www.processlibrary.com/directory/files/scvhost/

http://startup.iamnotageek.com/search.php

http://www.windowsstartup.com/wso/search.php

http://search.freefind.com/find.html?pageid=r&id=6940792&mode=ALL&n=0&query=svchost

I do not know the full path at this time.  I am at work, last night I was trying to figure out why my computer is taking about 5 minutes to turn off and copied down the running processes.  This one turned up suspicious.  It is using 99% of cpu at multiple times.

edit:  various spellings, I could be confused.  I will check the path and the spelling.  In other words I will get back with you tomorrow.

svchost in the system32 folder is OK (in fact there's always running couple of those under WinXP - see the Task Manager).
scvhost isn't OK.
