I want to cite this article:

I had a similar situation occur.

Avast ran a boottime scan, which it said onscreen it had completed. But it froze, instead of booting normally into Windows. I tried esc, enter, spacebar, nothing worked. I let it sit for some time, and it still had not moved. I shut it off with the power button, turned it back on and it would not reach the Windows login screen. I tried safe mode a couple times and it stalled trying to boot it.

I contacted the technical support for my computer's manufacturer, and we were unable to boot it up. I was forced to then pay a service fee of $250+ in an attempt to recover the information. We backed up the old OS and installed the OS again. We are still unable to access the information on the old OS.

This is incredibility frustrating and costly. I have very important information on there, that I was about to back up externally as soon as all the possible infections were gone-because I did not want to transfer any possible dangers to another device.

I have been a long time avast user, and I have not had an issue with a boottime scan prior.

Is there anything that you can do? I am desperate.
