Title: Quick Scan frequency
Post by: N0rT013 on February 26, 2013, 02:04:08 PM
I just changed from MSE to Avast - would like to know if a weekly quick scan is necessary or can I go to monthly? Scans only took 5 minutes or so on MSE but yesterday on my laptop, Avast scan took about half an hour. Too long to do daily.

avast have real time protection so any file that moves when your computer is on are scanned..
a quick scan a week / month is fine

or if you use screens saver, you can activate the screen saver scan, then it start / stop with the screensaver and you dont have to think about doing it

With a resident on-access antivirus like avast, the need for frequent on-demand scans is much depreciated. For the most part the on-demand scan is going to be scanning files that would be otherwise be dormant or inert. If they were active files then the on-access file system shield would be scanning them before being created, modified, opened or executed.

I have avast set to do a scheduled weekly Quick scan, set at a time and day that I know the computer will be on. If for some reason my system wasn't on, no big deal I will catch up on the next scheduled scan.

Thanks to both. Think I'll do the weekly - also while I have you, the time for this forum for my pc is incorrect. It is now 12:17 pm est - the forum shows the time as 04:17pm- I don't think it's a big deal but I'd like it to be correct. Thanks for your msgs about the quick scan as well.

You're welcome.

There are restrictions in what you can change in your profile, look and layout, Time Format or Time Offset. until you have 20 post (anti-spam measures) I'm not sure if the time zone are restricted, check.

Well, as I said in my earlier post, it's no big deal regarding the time (whether it can be changed) but, I believe that most sites reflect the current time zone of the poster rather than the origin of the software...thanks for all input. DavidR -- I will check whether there are restrictions regarding this.

Hoooray!!!  some of those codes are really tough to make out. I thought I'd try the audio "challenge" --- challenge is the correct word there. Fuggettabout it.  Anyway, glad to be back in the Avast community. Used to use it long ago and then went to MSE as it was highly rated. I did like it (mostly) but I keep seeing all these great reviews about Avast and thought I'd try it again.
