Avast 8, since Friday 8:30am
After doing a repair of Avast, the web or mail shields do not scan anything at all.
I did a repair again this morning but with no difference.
Should I remove Avast and then do a clean install ? or is there another fix for this ?

What anti-virus did you have prior to v8.0?
Have you tried a repair from safe mode?
If you decide to do a clean install from safe mode use aswClear - http://files.avast.com/test5beta/aswclear.exe :)

I had Avast 7.
No, I did not try a repair from safe mode.
What is your suggestion ?

Did a repair from safe mode and upon restarting Avast failed, it was totally shut down and there was no way to restart it at all.
I had to restart the machine again and do another repair in normal mode to finally get it working again.
Just a warning to others, Do Not attempt a repair from "Safe Mode"
All shields are working fine so far for now.

1) Doing a repair from safe mode worked for me during beta testing. 8)
Underlining is a bit over the top. If it works, it works. :)
2) Glad you have avast up and running. :)
One more thing...it helps us a lot if you would provide more info.
OS? Other security software?
