Title: Start services with command line
Post by: Ananouf on March 06, 2005, 02:43:43 PM
Hello,
excuse my english please.

I have a laptop not very powerfull (PIII 700, 128mo) with windowsXP pro and Avast! 4.6 .

I use thunderbird for my email, and firefox for the web.

For don't run an Avast 's service when it is unnecessarily, I will like to start or stop a service at the same time as the program which needs some.

For exemple :
- run/stop email scanner when I open/close Thunderbird
- run/stop web protection when I open/close Firefox
- run/stop instant messenger protection when I open/close Trillian

I try to do this with the command line in a .bat file : net start "avast! Mail Scanner"
The service start, but, it doesn't work, I have try with an infected mail. With this command line, the service is show "stop" on the Avast advanced monitor.

While waiting to find how to start services with command line, I leave them all active, and loses space in my ram memory.

Thank for your help.

I think this is not necessary.
Igor answered when I asked for this possibility: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=11727.0

avast! resident provider (e.g. Internet Mail) is not just the corresponding service. If you have Internet Mail running and stop the "avast! Mail Scanner" service, you disable the scanning of e-mails, but you don't turn the provider into "stopped" state (rather "waiting for a subsystem to start"). Similarly, if Internet Mail is stopped, you cannot start it just by starting the "avast! Mail Scanner" service.
