Title: Can you UPDATE avast! with the Downloaded Installer?
Post by: Azmo on March 16, 2013, 06:08:33 PM: If one downloads the avast! 8 installer from the avast! website, and installs avast! 8 over avast! 7, is that a recommendable means of updating the software, or is it encouraged that one utilize the in-avast! interface program update?

Cool. Can you select which avast! 8 components to install if you're using the installation file from the website?

Yes. If you run a custom install.

And just to clarify, that's OVER the previous avast! 7 installation (IE : not install previous version, and installing new version over previous version)?

Yes.

and probably that way you'd also improve your chances of being able to uncheck any unwanted third party software or toolbar (i.e. Google's stuff).

No. Avast! desings his installer in such a way that you can upgrade fron inside the program automatically ( when alerted to ) or if you want right click Avast! icon on taskbar > Update > Program.

Thanks. I ask because i want to update, but without installing the Browser Cleaner or Software Updater, and activating them by default.

Is it then recommended to uninstall the previous version and install the new version?
