Title: webshield on, mozilla doesnt work!...
Post by: gringojack on March 07, 2005, 09:17:10 PM
Hi

Mozilla fire fox still doesnt work when webshield is on

The fire wall is McAfee, but it doesnt matter whether it is on or off

avast is 4.6 refreshed!

The os is win xp home sp1 ram 1go radeon 9200

once I turn webshield on, I get a dialog box on the firefox homepage that says: "document contains no data" and it is impossible to go further on..
When webshield is off, it works fine

I checked everywhere I could, but nothing special to report about

Can somebody help??

thanks

Make sure your browser is not set to "Work Offline" (this option is generally in the File menu). If it doesn't help, try switching the proxy settings from "Auto-detect" to "No proxy" (I'm assuming you're not connecting to the Internet via proxy).

Left click the avast icon > Settings
Update (Basic) > Details > Proxy

Set Firefox to use no proxy at all to see what you get...

Are you using a proxy?
Any other security (related) software installed?
Does it work if you use IE?
Does it work if the McAfee firewall is removed?
What happens if you setup FireFox manually to use the webshield as instructed in the help file for Windows 9.x systems?

Give it a try and let us know if it works or not.
If not, just undo the changes. No harm done.

hi

concerning the above mentioned prob:
I currently use 2 hdd's with my comp, sometimes #1 and some other times #2. One is equipped with win xp home + sp1 and the other is equipped with win xp home + sp2

I also have a laptop equipped with win xp home + sp2

On all of them I installed avast 4.6 and firefox 1.0

The above prob only is  on the one where there is SP1!!

I just started having this exact same problem a couple days ago.
When webshield is on I get the "Document contains no data" message in IE or Firefox.
When I turn webshield off I can surf just fine.
Using Firefox 1.0.2 with Windows XP Service Pack 2

Message goes away for me ( repeatable) when I check "Ignore local communications" on the webshield/customize/basic page.

I was using Zone Alarm and shut it off and the problem went away. Maybe it was a Zone Alarm problem and not an Avast problem. Still testing...
