Hello. I love Avast free antivirus and have used it for longer then i can remmember. But recently i've had a small issue with it. Today i recieved a notice from the program saying a software update was available. So i clicked update now. Now as most of you know when updating the free software it gives you a choice to stay with free or buy a pro licence. Well this time it didn't give me a choice. It just upgraded me to pro and said the licence was't actvated. Well I found how to activate it but it said my Avast would expire in ten days. Then when i activated it the time changed to 30 days wich i get 30 day free trial. But I was using free it didn't have an expiery date so where is this 10 days comming from? why did it upgrade me to pro? How do i get back to using free? and why didn't it give me the choice of free or pro for this software update?
If anyone can tell me what's going on and how i can fix this it would be greatly appreciated

*UPDATE* Okay, now it's saying my subscription is expired. I JUST UPGRADED! WHAT IS GOING ON!?!??!?! HELP ME!!!!

Had the same problem.Only cure is clean reinstall.

After clean reinstall problem didn't return and for the past two weeks
everything is OK.

I also have the same problem my FREE AVAST ANTIVIRUS 8 keeps on UPGRADING itself to PRO automatically which annoys me a lot for it has happened a lot of times now..
I have to constantly use the uninstall utility and install again the FREE VERSION of AVAST OVER and OVER AGAIN..
If this continues, I will be forced to switch to other "FREE" Antiviruses :/
This bothers me a lot for I have trusted AVAST for YEARS now! and as much as I don't want to try other security software, I'm concerned that I will have to...
Please fix this issue... please.. 'cause I'm a big fan of avast and I don't want to switch to other antiviruses just because of this...

Another option would be to drop back to version 7 of Avast Free for the time being.
I'm sure this issue with v8 will be solved eventually, and when it is you can give
it another try.

Also have this issue. Needed to use a restore point, only going back a day or so, and when it rebooted got a popup telling me my trial period of "Avast Pro" had ended and wont update anymore, except ive only ever used Avast Free Antivirus, and just renewed the 12 month license in February
The current version listed is 8.0.1483 but if i try to update it get the message
Last encountered error: The licence for this product is invalid or has expired
Program: Updated (previous version: 7.0.1483, updated version: 7.0.1455)

Hey Para Noid, if the problems that its misidentified the install as a Pro account, would using the other link there to 'Resend Free License' somehow change it back?
im not looking for a way to get free upgrade to the pro version, just to restore normal functionality of what i had

If you saved the license file just insert it.
If you have misplaced it use the link I provided.
If you want to use the free version just re-install and register.
During beta testing I had to make several "clean" installs.
If your trial period for a paid product ran out, sorry.
edit: Use the "custom" install option.

I'm after 3 reinstallation of FREE version.
Effect is still the same - after 2-3 days I have end of the trial period for PRO version.

It is not strange.There is no such button.
I guess that is the part of this horrible bug.

I've just had this happen to my avast Free AntiVirus. I got a "program update" message and when I checked I then got another message about my subscription having expired! I then noticed that my avast Free AntiVirus had somehow changed to avast PRO AntiVirus! So I swing by these forums to see if it's a known issue and find that it was reported 6 days ago and, apparently, avast have done absolutely nothing about the problem!
There is no "option" to switch back to the Free version, when I go to the "Subscription" tab all I see are "Subscription Status: EXPIRED" follwed by a "Renew Now" button with a "Your subscription has expired" message underneath, then the "Subscription Information" section which has no information other than "0 Days remaining" with a "Insert License file" button and finally an "Activation Code" section with an "Insert activation code" button. There is nothing else after that!
It seems that the only recourse is to uninstall avast Pro and try to reinstall avast Free. If this doesn't work then I shall simply give up and dump avast products in favour of an antivirus product that does actually work!
EDIT: I've now uninstalled avast Pro AntiVirus and reinstalled avast Free AntiVirus. So far so good, the newly installed avast Free AntiVirus hasn't "updated" itself to the Pro version "yet", hopefully it won't. I shall, obviously, continue to monitor my installation and will report back if the problem returns.

I totally agree! I tried searching for that "Button" many times now but found nothing.. maybe it's indeed a bug.. -_-

This is a little amazing. I've three computers with xp. On two computers I've a problem with WORD-bug, and only on one computer I've a problem with PRO-bug. Version 8 is very inconsistent with xp, but on every computer it may look different.

But there others, who haven't problems like that. BTW: It's easy coming to another download during selection.
