Title: Web Shield blocking software updates
Post by: 3m on April 26, 2013, 07:02:49 AM
Hello,

Today I noticed that I had an iPhoto update in the app store.  However, when I tried to do the update, it said I needed to first update to OS/X version 10.8.3.  However, when I did the apple menu -> Software update, I got a "nsurlerrordomain error -1012" error message.

Turning web shield off resolved the problem and I am able to see the software update.

My exclusions for web shield only contain client.dropbox.com (https).  Should there be apple servers there?

Thanks,

-M

Try adding these:
swscan.apple.com (https)
swdist.apple.com (https)
It would be nice if there was a plugin that could configure these things from the browser.
I also have a browser plugin installed that complains about invalid certificate for my banking sites, so either I have to exclude those too or configure it so it checks only the IP address. (although I already trust my router firmware and use static ARP)

I have run into this as well on specific sites that require a secure connection. I'm running Mountain Lion (10.8.4) on a MacBook Pro. Specifically, I've narrowed the problem down to have the Scan secured connections checked within Web Shield. With Scan secured connections checked, I can't access Dropbox, Kindle, or Mac App Store updates. There may be more but those are the ones I've seen. I've tried exclusions, but they don't make any difference. I'm not sure when this started as avast! updates automatically. So for now, I'll leave Scan secured connections unchecked and hope for a quick fix.
