Finally, thank you. Hope all the hard work was successful.

Imagine it will take a little while for servers to get up to task as I attempted through GUI but simply stayed at 1483.
No worries ;)

Damn! Tried to update via GUI but kept getting Error on reboot. Eventually had to use Safe Mode, Uninstall Avast and am now going to attempt installing from Set-up File.
Updating through the GUI should not cause this kind of result. If I were not computer literate, I'd be screwed! Just not acceptable. :-[
See how it goes with Clean install ::)

Edit: I should mention this was on my Win8 OS

Well the issue with FF 20.0.1 and webrep is still there, webrep doesn't remind the position after I restart the FF :-[ Why this behavior? Can anyone explain me?

OK, Install (after removal 1483 in Safemode)  via the downloaded Set-up File went fine (OnWin8).
Still, I can only imagine what kind of reaction this failed process would cause from someone without Computer/software experience. 8)

Updating from the avastUI in both the 8.0.1487 beta and regular 8.0.1483. For some reason the 8.0.1487 beta is stating that this is the latest update, but the 8.0.1483 installation on my win7 netbook detects it and is updating now.

Edit: BSOD on reboot on update from 8.0.1483 installation on my win7 netbook, rebooted three times, BSOD on every one. Looks like I will be doing a clean install on this system.

Generated support package including mini and full dumps, this is meant to be automatically uploaded.

Also see WebRep not staying in position but is not making IE 10 crash when I exit IE, so better now if it would stay in place. But question about this new secureline, it shows you have to activate and has a place for a license file, is this the same file as for my Avast Pro? or is this some thing you buy separate? Not sure I will ever use this but want to know in case I do. Thanks sly

EDIT, WebRep not showing up in google search

Anyways I will just download it from this forum  :)

SecureLine?  It's an additional thing. Just click on the link "Please purchase a subscription" and you find out about the costs.
Google search?  Refresch the page and WebRep will show (bug!).

Hi jrace, thanks for the reply. If it cost extra I will leave it alone, do not need anything more. I have little problems with security so would not be worth the trouble. Tried the refresh of google search and it did not help, no WebRep in the search results. I am testing this new version on my old Windows 7 32 bit before going to my newer computers, maybe that is why?

I had to do a clean install.  Everything is working like it's supposed to.  WebRep is now working in all of my searches.  I got a blue popup saying I should install the plug in for Google Chrome but I don't have that browser installed.  I unticked Google Chrome before installing this version.

OMG!!! I thought the avast rep web has been resolved. In fact, it hasn't so I had to download the avast online security only for google chrome. Even I read in this forum that the browser integration under the Avast GUI doesn't work for Google Chrome. I hope this get resolved. I don't want to take any chances doing does sort of testing. I will just wait for an update to fix that. Security plugin works only IE10 and Firefox 20.0.1

Updating from the avastUI for the regular 8.0.1483 avast free version on my win7 netbook detects it and Installed, but resulted in a BSOD

Rebooted three times, BSOD on every one. Looks like I will be doing a clean install on this system.

Generated support package including mini and full dumps, this is meant to be automatically up

Don't know if this support package made it up as there is no confirmation.

I did a clean reinstall of avast 8.0.1488:
Uninstalled it from safe mode.
Ran aswClear for avast 7; ran aswClear for avast 8 and rebooted.
Installed 8.0.1488 and by all accounts it went well, rebooted and straight back to a BSOD.
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL sTOP: 0x0A (0X0, 0X02, 0X01, OX81A1B71E)
In previous BSODS I had the same Stop error, but the last group was different 0x081A1B71E.

Will now upload this (3 minidumps and memory.dmp) to the ftp/incoming location under file name DavidRdumps130502.7z

I did a fresh install of the latest version of avast!8. Once you install it u will get a notification at the right hand bottom corner saying to install avast! Online Security. That's is only for Google Chrome browser, because there is a problem with the installation of Web Rep only for google chrome and it can't install it via the browser integration on the Avast GUI if you click install. IE 10 and Firefox is okay Web Rep works with these two browser. Other than that everything works fine.

If you download the free edition from the Avast main website, it currently downloads (from CNET) the older 1487 build, not the 1488 build.

"I cant install security plugin for chrome browser."

You can install chrome avast! online security plugin from chrome directly. In avast! browser protection settings click install chrome plugin, chrome opens, click install button and chrome plugin will be installed then. Or install it via Chrome store.

There is known issue, although you have avast! chrome plugin installed, avast! ui will not notice that.

Thanks DavidR I would prefer to leave this patch trial/test to an experience beta tester as I've already gave them the dump file, I've kept the backup of the dump file just in case they might ask for it again.

PS. Could someone PM Avast if they received my dump file as I just wanted to know if they've got it.

I got as far as 1487 and had to uninstall due to IE browser continually crashing, sent my dumps of to igor via email so I'm still waiting on the conclusion as of yet.

My issue is very likely related to the browser protection module even though I did try disabling it but made no difference, I should have tried uninstalling the browser protection module and tested without it but unfortunately I didn't think of that before it was removed.

My system is the G74sx Speedy ;)

I've upload my dump file again and include a readme.txt file in the zip file to ftp/incoming location under file name SpeedyPCdumpsfile2013-05-03.7z (41mb) regarding the BSOD problem with W8 64bit please let me know by PM that you've got the dump file thank you and sorry for not including a readme.txt file explaining the issue.

Just an update on the patch to resolve BSOD I was talking about testing:
I have installed 8.0.1488 over the top of 8.0.1483 on my win7 starter edition 32bit netbook. Before rebooting I followed the instructions and applied the patch and the reboot completed successfully.

Looks like that patch is fine for 8.0.1488 on win7 32bit.

OK, Install (after removal 1483 in Safemode)  via the downloaded Set-up File went fine (OnWin8).
Still, I can only imagine what kind of reaction this failed process would cause from someone without Computer/software experience. 8)

Install seemed to go fine but after "Reboot" got the SAD FACE saying something to the effect " your PC has encountered a problem rebooting. We are collecting error information and will reboot for you".
This goes through 2 cycles because Win8 doesn't boot successfully. THEN the system goes into recovery mode and I have to enter 'Safe Mode' and uninstall this latest version.
I have done all the processes 'we as Evangelists' give to people with just this issue and to no success.
This version (8.0.1488) is simply no good for my Windows 8 Pro 64Bit.
Don't know what else to do or say!! :-[
Going back to 8.0.1483 or what???

Hi all,

I hope you are all well, I have done a clean install of Avast! FFREE 8.0.1488 and the install went smoothly.

I am having a problem installing security plugin for Google Chrome up to date 26.0.1410.64m, when I click in install but nothing happens.
Has anyone else had the same problem as me with this issue?

Hope to hear from anyone who can help and advice, thank you in advance.

This version has been working OK in spite of the work invovled in getting rid of GoogleUpdate.
I noticed with the last version that apps. seemed to be starting faster (less difference with/without Avast running than with previous versions) and this trend has continued - very good, thank you.

I see. Is there no chance they'll offer a free proxy service at say.. 100MB per month? I'm in need of a free high speed proxy just for a log in, then I can disconnect the proxy and run everything as normal. Heck, 10MB may even be enough.

I don't believe so either. Though even if it were and you use it to log on, I presume that once you disconnect the proxy the connection would fall over. Since secureline is handling the proxy all traffic for that log on and subsequent connection/traffic would be routed through the proxy; once the proxy is closed there is no way to route the traffic back to you.

At least that is my understanding of how things proxy work.

There won't be an update -at least for now as Google doesn't allow it anymore. As many ppl already wrote - just install it manually.

Well the issue with FF 20.0.1 and webrep is still there, webrep doesn't remind the position after I restart the FF :-[ Why this behavior? Can anyone explain me?

I had mine automatically moved from the right side to the middle. After moving it back to the right side and restart it stays there.

Another Problem i had with WebRep: as some ppl reported already in 1486 Beta 3 (http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=122392.msg933352#msg933352): need to refresh the page to get WebRep working on Google search. Further AdBlock isn't working and doesn't show icon. I had to disable AdBlock, restart and enable AdBlock to get AdBlock working again and WebRep to work on first load of a page.

Further as previously reported (http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=122392.msg933352#msg933352): neither with 1487 nor 1488 the "UpdatusUser" account is removed and the WebRep window poping up after clicking on the icon during a session to give rep. still can't be moved.

Wauv Avast, that was a baaaaaaaad update.

After the update and a reboot, I had NO internet. I could ping ip adresses, but normal trafic via browser, dropbox, IM and so on was not allowed to pass. Disabled all shields, that did not help :O
Then I started an update of the virus defs, but got an error that an installation was already running O_o Two seconds after that the internet came on, so apparently it was hanging in installing an updated def or something like that.

Avast that is simply not good enough. There has been to many of these issues, you need to improve your QA. I've always using Avast because of it's simplicity, how light it is and that it always worked, please don't destroy that.

Thanks.

I updated to this version on the first day it was available.  I unticked the box for Google Chrome because I hate that browser.  When I rebooted my computer this am. there was a Google Chrome icon on my desktop.  Clicked on it but it wouldn't open. Got a message saying I needed to reinstall it.  Went to the control panel to see if it was in my program files but it wasn't so why would I have the icon?

When I rebooted I was off-line (ADSL modem on USB), so Chrome wasn't downloaded and only GoogelUpdate was installed (took about half an hour to get rid of it).
Last time that Chrome infested my system it took about an hour to uninstall it, hack it out of the registry and then reset everything to use Opera as the default browser.

I don't think so.
Pity. Guess I have no reason to go back to Avast then. Especially since it lacks a decent HIPS like Comodo.

For a download, yes, but for the thing I wanted to use it for, it would work, as others have reported it to work properly with a good proxy. Unfortunately all proxies I've tried are so slow that I can't complete the needed login process.

My god what a nightmare!  I'm still using 7.0.1474, tried updating to 8 but absolutely hated the interface and it dragged my computer down to a crawl.  Tried installing it on a couple of customer's computers, dragged theirs down as well.  I've had several customers complain about 8, the dumbed-down UI and the fact that their computers were slow as snailsh*t after the update, uninstalled 8 and reinstalled 7.0.1474 with program update set to manual.  If the Avast team won't address these issues then I'll shop around for a different antivirus to use for myself, my wife, and my customers.

With this new update I still see people with nightmare scenarios in updating to or installing 8.0.1488 from scratch, if this won't even update a previous version of Avast properly, then I have no hope for ever recommending Avast to another customer.  The average person is NOT computer literate enough to uninstall their Avast to install the new version, I still hate the new dumbed-down touch screen interface, now you've added more CRAP to go wrong.  What's going on at Avast?  Did someone else take over the development of my favorite antivirus?  If so, you need to take a step back from this insanity and get back to a stable product that isn't nearly so resource-hungry.  If not, it may be time for me to jump ship.

I have no doubt the devotee's snarky remarks are only moments away.

I updated from AIS 8.0.1483 to AIS 8.0.1488 via AvastUI.  Upon restart on both machines, I received the "Complete Install" screen with the option to opt-out of Google Chrome and unchecked both options.  All options I'd set previously and my registration survived fine.  I've done a full scan on both machines.  Avast Team, thanks for the excellent work.

Installed by uninstalling the previous version via safe mode & then installing the new version. (the IS that is)
The two things I experience are I'm getting this "hick-ups" when switching to a different area of the software.
*.1483 run much smoother, in that case.
And, translations are not doing well. Getting both Dutch and English text and so on...
Especially on the main screen.

The Dutch translation in particular hasn't been finished in time for the release - so yes, the Dutch localization hasn't been updated, so new items are in English.

On the AdBlock-Topic: I have to test if un- and reinstall Avast helps as it helped some here: http://forum.chip.de/browser-add-ons/adblock-plus-mozilla-neustart-kaputt-1721779.html

Yet i want to report another bug: (after disable/enable adblock so icon is shown): Reproduceable, some sites don't fully show the WebRep icon (like on google.at firefox jetpack search - golem website see attach) - in Firefox/PaleMoon(added manually)/Chrome. IE doesn't show WebRep on google search at all, but the icon on top - same liek at http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=121006.0

I recommend when updating to this version to do a clean uninstall.

I just updated thru the GUI with no problems.  While there's been no word yet (unless I missed it, of course) from the avast team, it would appear that either the GUI-update problem was quietly fixed in one of the most recent def/engine updates, or else the problem is/was related to certain specific hardware/OS/software combinations.

On the AdBlock-Topic: I have to test if un- and reinstall Avast helps as it helped some here: http://forum.chip.de/browser-add-ons/adblock-plus-mozilla-neustart-kaputt-1721779.html

Didn't work (used actual cleaning tool too if you wonder). Still have to Dis-/Enable the AddOn to have it working/been shown.

This is really a good question. I am waiting now since some days with the execution of the update. Is it now safe to update or will a new version be published?

8.1483 worked just fine. My bet it's the added "STUFF"

Repair avast!:
1. Control Panel -> Add/Remove programs -> avast!
2. Click on 'Repair'.
3. Follow instructions.
4. Reboot.

The no internet because of webshield issue is gone for now. However, when I open the GUI the PC hangs for a minute or two then the PC operates smoothly again.

I recommend when updating to this version to do a clean uninstall.

Webshield issue is back and it seems only happens with internet connected via Bayandsl. Does not occurs on my university's internet.

So if you deactivate WebShield you have Internet? Are sure it's not any other security software? Emsisoft Online Armor f.e. likely sets in Firewall\Ports -Tab (only while Programs are ok) AvastSvc as blocked after an update. Ah - just got - it's the same pc/laptop? If so it can't be s.t. like that (except rules for places change). If you got the Desktop at home and laptop at university you might want to check.

it would be nice if an update adds new features they wouldn't be installed silently, but asked for user permission.

 :(Problem:
Each time I boot up my computer I get the avast warning
"The last attempt to update your virus definitions was unsuccessful...update again"
or words to that effect.

When I click on Update button from pop up it opens a dialogue box which (sometimes) has automatically started "updating".  It only takes 4s which is not convincing.
Then I click on OK, it comes up with Update Engine and virus definitions - click and again only 5s despite being step 1/2
Update Program, (Step 1/3), click on that, takes 13s.
None of this is getting me anywhere.
What can I do to get round this loop?
How vulnerable is my computer right now?
Windows 7 Ultimate
Firefox

So far I'm still using aVast free version 8.0.1483 because the program did not warn about the existence of a new version.

Any problems? This is normal?

The update-warnings are evenly distributed over several weeks to minimize server load.

<snip>

This is normal the update is spread over a time frame to balance server load, with 180+ million users you have to do that they all can't update at the same time. Now you know it is available you can do a manual program update from within the avastUI.

I also use my laptop at home. It seems that there problems with Avast and Bayandsl. My friend also experiences no internet connection if webshield is on and she is connected to bayandsl. Problems with internet does not occur if connected to other internet service providers like my university or pldtmy dsl

I am currently not using any 3rd party firewall on my laptop.

My desktop is currently broke so I can't test that.

@SpeedyPC: don't worry, we have already looked at your dump from 5/3. The BSOD was caused by avast network driver, it was fixed with an EM update (during Friday/Saturday I guess). It means, when user installs avast, this patch should be automatically downloaded & applied. It's a temporary solution until we release new program update (it's planned on this Th/Fr, I guess).

Any idea why avastsvc.exe sends two TCP packets to slcw.ff.avast.com after each reboot?

This server belongs to SecureLine (used for settings/status queries).

Thank you PK I'll let them know finally haft of my friends are currently using v8.0.1483, it took me while to fix 18 computers and 6 of them didn't create a system image backup and it was a real pain.

Also told them not to download or update any latest version of Avast until I give them the go ahead, they can only used to keep their virus database up to date automatically which is a good thing.

Good to read that there will be a new programm version.

So it's the best simply to wait until this version is released and the first experiences with this update are reported ...

I sure hope the updated version solves my issue on Win8 64 Bit as I use Avast PRO> and 1488 when installed my Laptop will not start, just goes into a loop>>>> the SAD FACE message stating something along the line " There is/was a problem with your PC starting, we are collecting error information and will reboot for you"
Laptop attempts to reboot twice and then into Recovery Mode, at which point my only option is to uninstall version 1488

@ Speedy

I haven't tried getting really pissed yet. ???

Updating from the avastUI in both the 8.0.1487 beta and regular 8.0.1483. For some reason the 8.0.1487 beta is stating that this is the latest update, but the 8.0.1483 installation on my win7 netbook detects it and is updating now.

Edit: BSOD on reboot on update from 8.0.1483 (to 8.0.1488) installation on my win7 netbook, rebooted three times, BSOD on every one. Looks like I will be doing a clean install on this system.

Generated support package including mini and full dumps, this is meant to be automatically uploaded.

Update - whilst a patch was made and worked, the latest release 8.0.1489 also resolves the problem as the update replaced the patched aswTdi.sys file.

See http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=123563.0 for the latest release information.
