Title: Avast keep flagging HP 1006 printer files as Win32:evo-gen[Susp]
Post by: nibikibaba on May 17, 2013, 07:14:13 AM
First of all, I am using Avast Free Antivirus on Windows XP Pro SP3 fully patched.

From time to time avast will come up with a red message box telling me that it has blocked a suspicious program but then when I move the 'infected file' to the virus chest and scan it there again immediately it says "--no virus --". However if I restore it or extract it back to the file system, Avast will immediately give me the same error message again.

As least these two files have been flagged repeatedly since 02-21-2013:
HP1006SM.exe
P1006SSL.exe
Both files are HP P1006 Laser Printer related programs that were in use for a long time.

This has happened twice yesterday when I start up Photoshop Elements and other virus scanners did not find anything.
It is likely to be a False Positive (and I have submitted both files to the lab) but why would Avast give inconsistent results (flagged it as a virus in the file system but recognized that it is "-- no virus --" in the virus chest). It that a bug or there is indeed something wrong on my side?

Thanks

Nibikibaba
