Title: Avast 4 From Floppy
Post by: Woody64 on September 20, 2003, 03:09:13 PM
Hi All.
I have a rather simple question.
Is there any way I can run Avast from a floppy? Example: A computer not starting, and not being able to access the OS, but booting with a startup disk, then switching to a Avast Disk? ::)

A better way for handling this is the Avast BartCD, A livelinuxcd like Knoppix (http://www.knoppix.net) or you have to build your own WindowsXP Bootcd by using Bart L.s PE-Builder (http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/) . But the Problem is that Avast will only work with the Avast Bart CD.
The Problem with a Bootdisk is, that is is almost a Dosdisk and so you are not able to access a NTFS Partition.

See http://www.avast.com/forum/index.php?board=1;action=display;threadid=834;start=new
for boot freeware applications...
I think raman is correct. Try BartCD  ;)

You can try either avast! 7.7 DOS Edition but it does not fit into just one floppy, you must have a bootable CD whit it...

Even avast! for DOS is way to large to fit on a floppy. E.g. the VPS file (the virus database) is about 2.5MB for the DOS version so I don't think there's a chance to run it from a floppy.. sorry. BART CD is the way to go, but its -- pricey :-[
