Title: I´m having problems unlocking my Sony Ericsson Xperia after power up
Post by: jvopalensky on May 30, 2013, 07:25:59 PM
Hi all

Similar to the issue reported by 00zaiko00 at http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=96294.msg767983#msg767983, for some reason now my phone is locked - and loudly announcing it to all - that it has been stolen or lost. This is false alarm and lock down.

Note:
+ unlike 00zaiko00, I did NOT change the SIM. My phone just lost power over night, and I tried to re-boot it in the morning. I did nothing else to the phone.
+ My Avast ver. 2.0.3377 (according my Avast dashboard and the last communication it had with that device - about 2 weeks ago)
+ I tried - unsuccessfully - unlocking my phone by using:
    a) the Avast Portal web interface, but those commands timed-out, and
    b) text message command "#### FOUND" (from my cell phone's online text messaging page: http://websms.rogers.page.ca/2way/login.php), where #### is my avast pin or the default 0000.
+ I tried using the PIN Recovery tool (from my phone), and that also failed to send any message to my friend's cell phone.

Any ideas how to unlock my phone - and why in the first place my phone became locked? (So far this looks like a bug in the Avast software.)

Thanks in advance / Jan

I should have also said that I installed a day before the CSipSImple app on my phone (see https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.csipsimple&hl=en).

Although all worked fine for whole day, I suspect CSipSImple app has a conflict with Avast app.

You cannot just tap the avast pin box and start typing??? Did you try?

Thanks Reinhard. Yes, I finally managed to enter my pin.. my phone was simply busy for a while (due to my panic tapping?) and did not respond to my finger touch.

But I am curious why this false alert was triggered in the first place. Any ideas.

Also, for your future release, I suggest you do not mix stolen alerts with lost alerts. If the phone is lost, there should be a way for the person who finds the phone to reach the owner (by phone or email).

Right now it is very embarrassing to have your phone sound a siren saying the phone is lost or stolen. It happened to me while on a streetcar and then in the office without any warning. The only way I could stop the siren was to wait until the battery died again.

Thanks / Jan
