So, I just started my computer. Normally, the green update popup says the definitions version, but today it did not. Did anyone else notice the same change?
-
Yep, I guess something new has been added.
-
I have yet to see it. Could someone post a screenshot? :)
-
Here ya go but this one gives more information.
-
Better example
-
Same for me again today

Same for me again today
I'm not sure if we should be concerned although it IS nice to see if it's the first second or more update for the day.
-
I like it telling you what definition its on :(
-
Mine had the vps version included. ???
-
Can some admin or someone help us get this figured out. I run Internet Security, not Pro or Free. Does that have anything to do with this?
-
Mine had the vps version included. ???
And mine don't :(
-
is it buy any chance that a running computer that picks up an update while running gets the VPS number? but a newly started up one does not get the VPS?
-
nope, both have no number for me!!!
-
This one just happened. 8)

A second ago I just got the popup window without the definition details, simply telling me that it's updated them. Is anyone actually going to confirm why it does this? Are our computers secure?
-
The same thing to me from yesterday.but however if after I open the option to show last message pop-ups from the avast icon also displays the version of the virus definitions but Without the white box for more details :o spain
I think that it is a bug in the vps that does not identify the version and therefore not shown, although once updated if you show the last message if you do it correctly because already registered the new version... now I was concerned that I was alone without touching anything :-\

Hi guys, read here: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?msg=931753
-
With all respect, that link does not help at all. I did a repair yesterday or the day before and NOTHING has changed, my update box just says "Your virus definitions have been automatically updated", nothing else.
Should I uninstall and reinstall?

Hi,
yes this is ok. Some of the popups are online and might contain slightly different information than the hardcoded. If you are still interested in the update number it can be found under Maintenance tab.
I understand that not always the version of definitions appears .. is this correct? ???
-
But why did it change all of a sudden? It used to give me my version number automatically all the time
-
I remember that a few weeks ago a notification as well but i did not give it importance and the next was normal.this time are three consecutive ..... i guess that will be normal.let us hope for the next update :-\

-
Test in avast to disconnect from the account and you'll be able to connect..also has very important..it is not necessary for the operation of avast
-
I went in my settings, apparently around the fourth somehow my installation and my account separated from each other. That is fixed now. Scary
-
Another version without pupup definitions..i guess that can be normal :-[
-
Are our computers secure?
As long as you are getting vps updates you are quite secure. 8)
-
Reinstalled after that account connection scare, the update popup did not fix
-
why if after I open the option to show last message pop-ups from the avast icon also always displays the version of the virus definitions ? :o

By the way, do you have any idea about what exactly "some of the popups are online" means?

Did anyone with the broken popup start getting the normal popup back yet?
Yesterday I uninstalled avast! IS, ran the aswclear software, reinstalled and reinserted the license, but still no luck...
Why do only certain people have this issue?

There isn't any problem. If you read the post a few items back, you'll see the explanation.
What's important is getting the updates and that still happens just like before.
If the VPS update version is really that important to you then after the update happens you can always see the
current version:

That's the thing though, it's all well and good saying everything is fine but this is not something that everyone seems to be experiencing, I just had the same smaller pop-up a second ago when I booted up, it just bothers me that a few days ago it was a full sized pop-up with the definition number included whereas now it's a smaller pop-up. If this was a new thing and everyone was seeing it with each update... fair enough but it's something that's happening to some people and not to others... I can't help but feel bothered about that.
Why exactly is there a cut down pop-up for only some of us whilst others are getting the normal popup? Is there a setting an update changed which we can change back? Knowing why this is happening would put my mind at ease rather than just being told everything is fine whilst some people seem to have this happening and others don't. It does concern me that in some posts I've seen it's been a matter of "as long as this thing is working, you are fine"... I paid for an avast product, is there anything wrong with wanting ALL of it to run smoothly and have peace of mind?
-
The oddest thing though is I cleanly reinstalled the program and I have the issue still
-
As already explained, it isn't an issue. :)
We don't all get our updates from the same source.
-
As of this moment I am still getting the cut down pop up simply telling me that the definitions have been updated, is this going to change? Or is this how the updates will look from now on.
About Avast has the definition down as 130603-2 and earlier it had updated to 1. I presume this means that the definitions are updating when they say they do, just wish there was more on WHY it is doing this for some of us and not others... is this a Euro/UK thing?
-
is this a Euro/UK thing?
The pop-ups are displaying properly for me and I'm in the UK so that shouldn't be causing the problem.
-
It has already been explained by Avast:

When some pop-ups are online, it means that the coding changes have been rolled out in that area and not in other areas.
Takes some time to push this out to some 170,000,000 + active users scattered all over the world. Does not happen instantly.
-
some of my pcs do the full one some do the mini one, why?

Apparently it's normal though I really don't know how to explain why it's this way for some and not for others, doesn't really seem to have an explanation, for example I live in the UK and someone else from the UK is seeing the regular pop-ups from what I've gathered. If you right click the toolbar you can ask to view the last pop up. It shows the definition update number but no longer has the boxed link at the bottom saying "show more details" (or something along those lines).
-
Does anyone know if or when the mini popup problem will be solved?

Since there isn't any problem, no fix is needed.

Not sure I'd agree, I think a lot of people's minds would be put at ease if everybody had their programs running the same way, not differently. I've had a subscription all this year with the pop-ups being as they were before for the past 10 months and now for the last two my program is different from other peoples, it makes me worry what else is different, what else isn't working the same way/properly. I'm in the process of deciding whether to renew my subscription and I'm rather undecided yet... though I would like my avast! program is changing and fixing even if the issue is something minor.
-
After reading the causes ,do not think that it is a problem, but if that should be further clarified these things therefore confuse users when a day for changes if there is another apparent reason ;)
-
Same issue for me in my laptop/Vista and PC/XP . I use IS paid version.
-
Ok, regardless the fact that it is benign, it is a problem.
When is this going to get fixed!?!?
-
Still getting it here too, just popped up a second ago.
-
Does anyone know if or when the mini popup problem will be solved?
Don't think there is a problem here. New popup is actually smaller than the old, and, I feel, less obtrusive than the old one was. We're really talking about an issue that has been plaguing the forum for months, that of obtrusive pop-ups in the old versions, and this is a resulting change due to numerous complaints about that.
Personally, I think avast! nailed this one.
As I said earlier, with 170 million + active users, not all users are going to get this update rolled out to them at the same time.

So today after aborting a bootscan, I had an avast! glitch and some of my shields were off and the program was unresponsive to re-enabling them. I restarted, everything was fine then and I repaired my installation just in case. I got the full sized proper update notification back inadvertently!
