My account doesn't work any longer (since yesterday) I receive a message that:
AAVM subsystem detected a RPC problem.
My free version ends october 2013.
What is wrong?
-
- Which version..??
- OS..?? (32/64 Bit..? - which SP..?)
- Other security related software installed..??
- Which AV did you use before avast!..??
-
Not really clear what is wrong as there can be more than one thing that could cause/contribute to this error.
This error in the past was often due to having another AV installed or remnants of the previous AV left behind.
Have (or did) you another Anti-Virus installed in this system, if so what was it and how did you get rid of it ?
It could also be corruption within the avast installation.
Try a repair of avast:
XP - Add Remove programs, select 'avast! Anti-Virus,' click the Change/Remove button and select Repair, click next and follow.
Vista, win7 - Control Panel, Programs & Features, uninstall a program, select 'avast! Anti-Virus,' click the Uninstall/Change and select Repair, click next and follow.
I don't think that is likely to resolve it, so you may need to do a clean reinstall of avast.

Sorry forgot the OS
Windows XP sp3 installed all updates installed
Other AV was AVG years ago and since then AVAST did what it had to do. And I am also using for years:
Spybot Search and Destroy
SpywareBlaster
Spywareguard
Another strange thing is that I can now only work in Safe Mode
-
First, get rid of Spybot S&D..!!
Then:
1. Download avast! Free Antivirus: http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/avast_free_antivirus_setup.exe
2. Follow instructions: http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed avast! versions..!!)
3. Reinstall avast! with the downloaded installer from point 1.
4. Reboot.
-
OK
I removed S&D with REvo Uninstaller
I run ASWCLEAR in safe mode, I choosed nr 1 in the list Avast! 4 HOME Pro
Rebooted to Normal mode
Run avast_free_antivirus.exe
So far so good
I got a green smiley saying all installed
And then suddenly a BS saying
No_more_irp_stack_locations
Restart only possible in safe mode

Did you really only have V4 installed before..??
As said, run the uninstaller for all prior installed avast! versions..!!
-
BTW first thanks for your help.
I run aswclean for version 5,6,7, and 8
I even tried to install AVG but pc didn't even start. The it isn't an AVAST related problem.
Then - yesterday evening - I installed Microsoft Essentials - not my favorite AV - but then it worked. No problem at all.
Today a removed several other malware / spyware programs but no result.
BTW using aswclean what directory/map do I have to enter in the secend bar (under the version). Because I cannot find a map that points to AVAST. Can I leave it blank?
-
I run aswclean for all versions in the pulldown menu
I installed AVAST got a green smiley and thought it is OK but then Blue Screen and again no_more_irp_stack_locations.
I give up, remove avast and have to stay with Essentials. Thanks for your help

Create a new and empty folder and point aswclear to it.
Just remember that avast! and MSE are, sooner or later, incompatible. You need to uninstall MSE to get avast!

Hello,
I'm now updating my drivers I havn't done it since I bought this pc 5 years ago. Using DriverMax I can update for free 2 drivers a day. I updates my ATI RADEON Xpress 200 series and DUAL Channel PCI IDE controller.
I have removed - using revo uninstaller - some software that - in my opinion - might cause a problem: AdAware and WiseCare365
I scanned my pc with CCleaner and Eusingg Free Reg Clean
I disabled MSE
In installed AVAst
I did like you told me, same result: blue screen and again no_more_irp_stack_locations.
Then I removed in safe mode 2 more programs
Recuva and Super AntiSpyware
I scanned my pc with CCleaner and Eusing Free Reg Clean
Restarted in Normal mode did not work
Restart in safe mode
I removed AVAST with Revo
I run aswc again like you told me
I enabled MSE again to have some protection
Result

I kept trying the past days but no result.
