I have the newest version of MSN-Instant Messenger.
When it transfers files to "my documents" it used to scan them with Norton.
I recently uninstalled Norton,so that I could use AVAST.
There is a way to browse what scans those files.
Can I use AVAST for that?
Second question---Does AVAST scan IM as it is being used?

The following communication programs are supported:
AIM (AOL Instant Messenger)
Gadu-Gadu*
gaim*
ICQ
IM2 Messenger*
Miranda*
mIRC*
MSN / Windows Messenger
Odigo*
Psi Jabber Client*
Skype*
Trillian
Yahoo! Messenger
Did you start the IM provider?
Welcome to avast :)

Hmmmn,
That reply was above my head.
Please read my post again, and figure I have limited skills.
When I remove norton, and hit browse, I see a list of my programs, in there I got access to AVAST and AVG
Figure I can pick one of those two.

If you have the instant messenger provider enabled then Avast will scan MSN and file transfers.
Detailed info can be found in the avast help file.
But I believe your question as to what program to choose when you click
options>file transfer>browse
in msn is the following (for Avast)
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashQuick.exe
