Title: avast! External Control 1.6.125 Released
Post by: RejZoR on April 30, 2005, 08:27:39 AM
New in version 1.6.125
+Removed avast! Main Control (sorry, had way too many problems with it)
+Added special Power Mode for Web Shield (more secure, less compatible)
+Added new “Restore default avast! Settings” to easily restore all changes done by AEC)

You can download this new version using integrated SmartUpdate function or by visiting www.excessive-software.tk :)

Regards
RejZoR

EDIT:
You can test Web Shield Power Mode with this tester:

I can't find any problem with it... Anyway, how can I test?
Won't be better for the other users if you post more info about this feature here?

Readme file, readme file, readme file. People should start reading it.
Thats why it's there.

Web Shield Power Mode
Enabling this feature forces avast! Web Shield provider to scan HTTP traffic from all programs. This is much more secure, but also much less compatible.
There has been many problems with several firewalls (like Zone Alarm), but if you never had any problems or you're using Windows Firewall you can try it.
Problems may be encountered in form of partially rendered web pages or total HTTP traffic block (unable to browse any pages).
Very problematic programs are still automatically excluded by Alwil Software.
Recommended for advanced users.
(default and recommended is unchecked)

Oh about testing it.
Select Web Shield provider and use SmartUpdate in AEC to check for new updates.
In Web Shield you should see my server URL as last checked item.

As far as I can tell, yes. I've checked it in AEC and have rebooted but it doesn't seem to make any difference.

You're using ZoneAlarm and browser bypass using proxy? Thats the reason.
Traffic is routing only through browser and transparent mode is automatically disabled since you have ZA...

I know how it works. In your case only stuff downloaded in browser gets checked and nothing else, even if you enable Power Mode. Only transparent mode is supported by Power Mode. Hm,how should i add warning for this... ???
Hm,so Win9x is also automatically excluded. I'll add this.

When I did the install, I elected not to bypass Webshield since I never had any problems with ZA.

So why have you set proxy settings in browser if it worked fine?

Btw, AEC 1.6.130 has been released. Minor update for Power Mode on Win9x systems.
Use Smart AutoUpdate to upgrade.

In other words, don't use a lan setting at all and don't set it to 12080 in WebShield?

Yeah. In Windows 2000/XP this process is fully transparent like Internet Mail provider which now checks without any addition settings.
You only have to set that port and proxy if you have Win9x system.
