Title: Avast Home v4.6
Post by: angel_eyes on May 03, 2005, 11:14:19 AM
I did a search for this and none of the given solutions worked so I'm gonna ask again (sorry!)

I'm running Avast Home Edition v 4.6 on Windows ME (I know, I know, it's the only thing that would work tho!)
I've registered 3 times now to get different license keys but none of them work.
I've copied and pasted straight from the emails, I've entered it myself and it keeps saying "Invalid license number"
I can't understand why it's doing it.
I've checked my time/date settings and they're ok. I've made sure there's no extra spaces in the key.

You're help would be most appreciated on this matter.
Thanks.

Please take a look here: http://www.avast.com/eng/i_was_successfully_r.html

Q: I was successfully registered for using avast! antivirus program and I received the activation key. However, when I try to enter the key, the program says "Invalid license number". Why?

A: The activation key is valid. Use copy & paste method to enter it into avast! (watch the instructional video (http://www.avast.com/files/tutorials/insert_key.htm)); keep in mind that this number can't be used on any server operating system. Besides, you have to be logged in Windows with administrators rights  (to enter they key).
Also, check if your system date is set correctly. The license key is valid for one year, so if you changed the system date to a value when the key is expired, it becomes invalid. In that case, set the system date correctly and enter the same license key again.

I have a similar problem on my Windows XP (home ed, SP2) where I use several profiles (for the members of my family).

I managed to activate the Avast! in one profile, but whenever I log into any of the other profiles the Avast! wont start automatically and when I try to start it it states "Invalid license key".

Yes, I log in as Admin, Yes I have the correct time, Yes I have a valid licens key, Yes, I have checked that the services are set to automatic startup, Yes I have pasted in the exact license key and Yes I have sent the question to the Avast! support team 2 weeks ago and still have not received any answer...  ???  :-[

What to do? I would be surprised if this program really wont be able to handle multiple XP users on the same computer.

Did you change file system from FAT32 to NTFS?

Does avast work correctly at the Admin account?

Shame!  :(

I've tested in a lot of computers. Avast works perfectly when you have Admin + other accounts. No trouble.

Thanks for your detailed questions - all the accounts I refer to above are admin accounts (I have not even come to the users yet). With regards to FAT32/NTFS I have only used NTFS since it is XP from scratch on a (relatively) new computer.

...so I'll just uninstall the program and forget about Avast! for the time being - that problem need to be fixed before I try to use it. I cannot bother with such hassel to protect my system. :(

See the quote from Turkey below, which tells me why not to bother

We had some people having problems with avast! not working with all the accounts on Windows XP so you're not really alone, but I have three other accounts on my PC and never exprience this type of issue.  For now ask some of Tech's questions in your topic.   ;D

I would like to know if the Avast Home Edition detects spyware and protect me from them or not.

I send you that pm cause I thought it might make you feel better cause many of us know how it feel under stress when we have computer related problems. Like this topic, we had some cases were people can't load avast! from other accounts but in most cases members in this forum had help the user to solve the problem.  Please don't give up  quickly, cause we didn't really give you any steps to solve your problem yet.  But if you really don't have the time, we'll understand and hope you have a pleasant day. :)
