Title: Updating Not Working After Install Driver
Post by: UserA789 on August 19, 2013, 04:44:10 AM
I have been banging my head against a wall today trying to find out what happens to my network, or at least connectivity to the FULL internet after installing SecureLine driver.

I cant use Windows Update any longer... it searches for updates but WIL NOT download them

I cant have Avast modify the installation to get uninstall SecureLine.

Here is the log from Avast:

I tried changing to 'Detect Settings' and even my proxy settings  Sometimes I use my ISP ad block proxy service and this usually clears up my updating Windows when I get problems.  Nothing will allow me to modify my instaltion so now Im hoping I can just un-install Avast and use aswclear before I have to re-format and re-install for the fourth time today (just noticed that the issue starts AFTER I choose to try SecureLine and it installs the driver.)

I had a lot to do today, but sometimes what we get to do is help others see problems that have been ignored.. is there a developer I can bill for my extra time on this? (RHETORICAL)  :'(

Well, removing Avast (to include using the Avast tool) did not fix the problem.  Im sure tomorrow I can look forward to loosing money re-installing an OS form scratch... AGAIN  >:(

Good thing Im on a real fiber connection and not XFinity's wanna be WAN transmissions.  It takes MUCH monger to install than to download anything at this point.  No, its not google... its a company that has been an ISP since 1993 and still doing it right with ZERO customer cancellations...  8)

Can Avast even claim that one  :-X ?

I have had to download the Windows updates individualy and install them (when MSFT allowed).

Semper Fidelis XMission!

..just to be clear..

I was updating just fine.  I got curious and decided to check out the trial for SecureLine.  As soon as it installed and activated... no more Windows updating.

This was with it connected and disconnected and seems to even be causing issues after using Avast Uninstall and ASWCLEAR.EXE.

Maybe its a WinUpdate doing the problems but this is the second time I chose to check out SecureLine (on the same day and why I have had to reinstall the OS more than once).  The first time, I did from the git-ko and started getting the same error after my most recent attempt AFTER updating Windows.

That is why I feel it is being narrowed down to Avast SecureLine.  Tomorrow's ENTIRE re-installation will tell me how correct this hypothesis is.  If I have no problems without installing SecureLine3 then it will definitely be the problem.

This was a two part issue:

1)  Windows has recently changed their update security protocols; to which my router required adjusting.  New AcitveX protocols were mis-routed at my router.  This was adjusted but I still experienced issue after changing my router settings to allow ALL ActiveX; then

2)  SecureLine, for some reason, inteferres with my Win 7 (SP1, 2011 rel.) ability to communicate through port 443; which Windows Support designates as a required open port for updating.  This is strange of MSFT, as some ISP's also block this port for security reasons.

If I updated before installing SecureLine, I was able to maintain update ability.  If I installed SecureLine before updating.. or before getting past IE10 update, I would get the error out.  Im checking to see if I remembered to note the error code.  It ended dt0000 (which I know doesn't help at all.)

Thanks for hanging around and simply watching someone trying to get support.  :-*
