Title: problems starting

have just installed avast pro 4 and when i try to start resident scanner (all 6) it tells me "the requested resident task was not found. Task not completed".

Then when i try to run the virus scanner, it tells me "unknown error. Program can not set properly into main storage"

What is going on? whats wrong? how can i fix it?

Hi,

what WIN do you have ?
If Win NT/2000/XP: did you do the installation as Administrator ?

What filesize did the downloaded avast-installfile have ?
have you rebooted after installing ?

use the boardsearch above for info on the "main storage" error.. some hints there..
 ;)

the hints didnt work, or i cant find the file he is talking about.
i am on win 98 and the file size is 7432kb
please help!
i also copied the ashserv file from the other start up problem a few threads down and that didnt work either

if you don't even find the files mentioned, AND your file-Explorer options are set to show all files/folders/extensions:
I'd advise a clean re-install of avast

do/did you have any other AV-progs on the PC ?
