In AOL, when I open an email I get redirected to Tumri.net. I can close this but it reopens again soon after. Have run MBAM, ADAWARE and AVG without ending the problem. I also note BYROWSE2SAAVEE as an add-on in IE=9 that I cannot disable. Possible connection. Attached is the ADwCleaner log and MBAM log files.
Thanks

Hi I will need to look at the system first
Download AdwCleaner from here (http://general-changelog-team.fr/en/downloads/finish/20-outils-de-xplode/2-adwcleaner) to your desktop
Run AdwCleaner and select Scan
(https://dl.dropbox.com/u/73555776/AdwCleaner.GIF)
Once done select the report button and attach the log
THEN
Download OTL (http://oldtimer.geekstogo.com/OTL.exe) to your Desktop
Secondary link (http://www.itxassociates.com/OT-Tools/OTL.exe)
- Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
- Select All Users
- Under the Custom Scan box paste this in
netsvcs
BASESERVICES
%SYSTEMDRIVE%\*.exe
/md5start
services.*
explorer.exe
winlogon.exe
Userinit.exe
svchost.exe
/md5stop
dir "%systemdrive%\*" /S /A:L /C
CREATERESTOREPOINT
- Click the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
- When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL.
- Attach both logs
-
Requested logs are attached. I proceeded with a clean w/ AdwCleaner and carefully? selected items that seemed untoward. No major fallout so far .Issue seems to have resolved itself with all the scanning, etc. Do you see anything that portends a return?
-
One really bad boy remaining .. I will need to hit this one twice
Warning This fix is only relevant for this system and no other, using on another computer may cause problems
Be advised that when the fix commences it will shut down all running processes and you may lose the desktop and icons, they will return on reboot
Run OTL
- Under the Custom Scans/Fixes box at the bottom, paste in the following
(https://dl.dropbox.com/u/73555776/OTL_Fix.GIF)
:Commands
[CREATERESTOREPOINT]

THEN
Download and Install Combofix
Download ComboFix from one of the following locations:
Link 1 (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe)
Link 2 (http://www.forospyware.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe)
VERY IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop
* IMPORTANT - Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. If you have difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, refer to this link here (http://forums.whatthetech.com/How_Disable_your_Security_Programs_t96260.html&pid=494216#entry494216)
- Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
- Accept the disclaimer and allow to update if it asks

- When finished, it shall produce a log for you.
- Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.[/b]
Notes:
1. Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
2. Do not "re-run" Combofix. If you have a problem, reply back for further instructions.
3. If after the reboot you get errors about programmes being marked for deletion then reboot, that will cure it.
Please make sure you include the combo fix log in your next reply as well as describe how your computer is running now
-
Thanks for the review. Logs are attached. Initially taskbar icons weren't available. When negotiating from homepage( Google) I got an alert saying I was leaving a secure area and going to where others could read stuff. Otherwise all seems well. I've seen other posts elsewhere warning against Combofix so was reluctant to use. Did we get it?
-
Yep now as dead as a Dodo :)
How is the computer behaving now ?
Combofix reset IE to default
-
Seems pretty snappy. Thanks for your assistance.
-
Subject to no further problems :)
I will remove my tools now and give some recommendations, but, I would like you to run for 24 hours or so and come back if you have any problems
Now the best part of the day ----- Your log now appears clean
A good workman always cleans up after himself so..The following will implement some cleanup procedures as well as reset System Restore points:
Remove ComboFix- Hold down the Windows key + R on your keyboard. This will display the Run dialogue box
- In the Run box, type in ComboFix /Uninstall
(Notice the space between the "x" and "/")
then click OK
(http://i1224.photobucket.com/albums/ee362/Essexboy3/Misc%20screen%20shots/CF_Uninstall-1.jpg)
- Follow the prompts on the screen
- A message should appear confirming that ComboFix was uninstalled
Run OTL and hit the cleanup button. It will remove all the programmes we have used plus itself.
Clear Restore Points
Go Start > All Programmes > Accessories > System tools
Right click Disc Cleanup and select run as administrator
When it pops up at the first prompt select OK after it has done some calculations the tabs will appear
Select More Options tab
Press Sytem Restore and Shadow Copies Cleanup button
: Keep Java Updated :
WARNING: Java is the #1 exploited program at this time. The Department of Homeland Security recommends that computer users disable Java
See this article (http://www.forbes.com/sites/eliseackerman/2013/01/11/us-department-of-homeland-security-calls-on-computer-users-to-disable-java/) and this article (http://www.nbcnews.com/technology/technolog/us-warns-java-software-security-concerns-escalate-1B7938755).
I would recommend that you completely uninstall Java unless you need it to run an important software.
In that instance I would recommend that you disable Java in your browsers until you need it for that software and then enable it. (See How to diasble Java in your web browser (http://www.geekstogo.com/2600/how-to-disable-java-in-your-web-browser/) and How to unplug Java from the browser (http://krebsonsecurity.com/how-to-unplug-java-from-the-browser/))
Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programmes:
Malwarebytes (http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam-download.php).
Update and run weekly to keep your system clean
Download and install FileHippo update checker (http://www.filehippo.com/updatechecker/) and run it monthly it will show you which programmes on your system need updating and give a download link
If you use on-line banking then as an added layer of protection install Trusteer Rapport (http://www.trusteer.com/Products/Trusteer-Rapport-for-Online-Banking)
It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system and to keep them updated. To keep your operating system up to date visit - Microsoft Windows Update (http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com)
To learn more about how to protect yourself while on the internet read our little guide How did I get infected in the first place ? (http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/topic/225044-preventing-malware-and-safe-computing/)Keep safe

Last night Tumri.net reappeared when I opened an email. Again this morning.Cleaned out IE temp files, browsing history again and issue seems yo have gone. MBAM sees nothing. Not able to disable Java as instructed in link as I "dont have sufficient permissions". System seems OK, for now. Other cleaning, etc. went well.
Thanks.
-
Was this an old e-mail that you opened
-
I tried old ones and it was OK. Dumped a bunch from possible contaminating sources, too. Opened new one last night and wham. Since my post earlier its completely taken over my email account w/ AOL. Opening the topic reply alert just now triggered it. Will get busy compiling logs again.
-
Here are the 2 scans. Checked mail on my laptop as main is taken over. Well... now the lap has it too.
-
Does AVG not have an e-mail scan ?

OTL log attached. Will have to fix the lap once this is complete,
Avg does have an e-mail scan that is active. Seems I need something stronger.
-
You could always try Avast :)
How is this one behaving now ?
-
Avast is better than AVG i can tell. ;D
-
As soon as I opened AOL and the mail opened Tumri took over. Didnt click on any mail at all.
-
Have you managed to delete the bad e-mails now ?
-
All e-mails have now been deleted permanetly.
-
OK if you are happy with the main system we can look at the laptop :)
-
Main is still infected badly. Opened topic alert that was just sent and it took over. Will prepare logs for the lap. Tough little sucker.
-
What problems are you experiencing on the main system
-
As before-Tumri.net opens upon even opening the mail component in AOL. Also, as before, when I open any mail tumri.net window comes on. I can close it but it quickly re-appears.
-
Have you cleared the deleted e-mail folder ?
Please download Junkware Removal Tool (http://thisisudax.org/downloads/JRT.exe) to your desktop.
- Right-mouse click JRT.exe and select "Run as Administrator" the tool will open and start scanning your system
- please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications
- On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
- post the contents of JRT.txt into your next message.
-
JRT SCAN attached
-
So if do you get the tumri stuff appearing as soon as you get to AOL before you do anything ?
What are you seeing on the main computer at the moment ?
-
Just opened your topic alert re" your post and Tumri.net page took over. I can close it but it soom reappears. Whatrver email I open, Tumri takes over.
-
Help!! Something must've hit AOL users as I started having the same problem last night and I've been on AOL for over 10 years. It's connected to the email. As soon as I open an email it pops up and won't go away. I can open my emails thru aol.com on internet explorer with no problem. It's just the aol software that's the problem. I also have AVG and it did not remove it. Is there some other software I can run. I'm not savy enough to print out logs, etc. I just want it gone!!
-
OK so it is related to the way the e-mail client runs in AOL. Looks like they have been hacked again
Susie Texas could you start your own thread please and I will pick you up there run the AdwCleaner and OTL programmes as detailed here http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53253.0
Club210 do you have another e-mail client that you can use instead of the AOL one ? I.e. Livemail ?
-
No I really don't. I'm pretty enmeshed with AOL, pluses and minuses. Susies notion of using the internet backdoor may see me through here.
What is the likelyhood of this thing reappearing if I uninstall AOL-difficult though that prospect is- and start afresh only with my address book intact?
-
Club210 and any others. I downloaded and ran malawarebytes on my computer. It didn't show any infections but after I shut my computer down and re-started it the tumi.net seems to be gone. Will report back if it comes back. I would suggest using aol.com to read your email for awhile as that worked for me and use the aol software for web browsing. Thanks Susie
-
You can leave AOL on the system and use Livemail to collect your e-mail, I have found the MS filter to be very good
