Post by: avastreally? on September 07, 2013, 09:10:04 PM
hi i downloaded avast antirootkit from 2 sites, 1 form bleeping computer and another form the reputable blog , raymond.cc
to my surprise they look completely different
the one from bleeping computer (looks like cmd menu in windows)
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/aswmbr/

and the raymond.cc one look pretty polished
(btw it found a rootkit on my cousins pc in this directory: google chrome / cache/ fxxxxxx)

anyone aware of this?
or can explain wth is going on ?

note: this isnt spam, as when i post links they keep deleting my topic

The Raymond cc one is the old (2008) antirootkit scanner

The correct place to download this file is:
http://public.avast.com/~gmerek/aswMBR.htm (http://public.avast.com/~gmerek/aswMBR.htm)
It should also only be used by someone who knows what they are doing.
In the right hands, it's a great tool. In the wrong hands it can be a system killer.
