Turned on my puter this morning and my avast is turned off!!! It doesn't expire till april of 2014. What the heck is going on. I have the free version. PLEASE, a quick answer would be great, don't like being without protection!
-
Perform another (re)boot and see if the problem is solved.
If not perform a repair of avast.
start > control panel > software > avast > add/remove > choose repair
-
add to what Eddy say....
do you have any other Security programs installed?
are previous used AV fully removed? http://www.avast.com/faq.php?article=AVKB11#artTitle
-
I will try another re boot ty
-
Did the reboot, still not connected. It's telling me I have 0 days of registration. NO, I have no other av on my computer. I don't see anything that says REPAIR in control panel. If I can't get this fixed, will I have to remove avast and re-install
-
Go to Control Panel>Programs and Functions>Install or uninstall a program>Double click on Avast in the list
In the window that pops up choose repair at the bottom.
-
I will try, TY
-
I hit repair and this is the message I got. Error processing packages. Please use full update
-
Try a uninstall and reinstall. Just do what i said above but hit remove now.
Then restart and run this tool: http://files.avast.com/beta9x/avastclear.exe
Choose your installation path where you installed Avast.

I really don't know if it's beta or not, how can I tell? I usually stay away from the betas so probably not. It's the free version.
-
which download do I use?

TY Pondus

I tried what you said Pondus and it didn't work, guess I'll have to uninstall avast and install. TY again
-
will an uninstall also get rid of Chrome too?
-
I think not, Chrome is an Standalone program.
-
Thanks Steven. The reason I ask is I tried using chrome search and I couldn't get on. Also, I have the avast free antivirus set-up icon on my desktop, can I use that again for the new install after removing this one?
-
You can use that again.
But i can recommend to download the newest version.
-
show me where to go to download the newest free version of avast, also, should I remove the old setup icon from my desktop?
-
Go to Avast.com and choose the version you want to install.
The Icon on the desktop can be removed.
Please use Avastclear to completely remove Avast from the computer: http://www.avast.com/de-de/uninstall-utility
I would also do this when version 2014 Final is out cause they made many changes (put real time shields together etc.)

Avast Free (http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/avast_free_antivirus_setup.exe)

OMG, you are not going to believe this, my date was incorrect, I happened to check it and it said 2025. I have NO IDEA how that even happened. All those horrible red X's are gone!!!! Thank you ALL for the help, I truly appreciate it. What could have made the year date change when I know I didn't do it?
-
I actually re-registered so now it's from today till next September, this won't cause a problem with the old registration will it?
-
Not at all.
I can really recommend you to upgrade to Avast 2014 when it is out. ;)
-
will do Steven. Another question, how do I enable my software updater?
-
Go to Software Updater and Settings if you disabled it. If you just reinstalled Avast restart the computer, this is a known bug i think.
If you want automatic updates in background you have to purchase a license for Avast Premier.
-
I didn't re-install, I registered it again.
-
Alright. Then please check the Software Updater Settings. ;)
-
I restarted puter and all is ok, can't thank you guys enough, you all have been a great help!! :)
-
My pleasure. :)
