Hi!
Apparently disabling avast 8 shields during a download with Firefox 24 cancels that download.
Is this a bug?
Is it by design, and if so, why?

Hello,
the shield work as proxy and disabling avast!'s shield you stop something in the middle of downloading chain so it can't continue downloading.

and if you pause shields before you start the download?
(not that i would recomend that in case the file is infected)

kamykaze, as milos said, the avast program's "webshield" acts as a proxy.. with "webshield" enabled, all internet-connections are routed through "webshield".. if you disable "webshield", any internet-connections that you had, which were routed through "webshield", are lost..
so, if you want to temporarily disable "webshield", you need to disable it before making any internet-connections.. with webshield disabled, the internet-connections will not be routed through "webshield"..
