Title: Web Shield and ISA Server
Post by: kwg on May 20, 2005, 10:14:56 AM
The latest version of Avast SBS Server Premium includes the Web Shield component in addtion to the ISA Server component.

Is Web Shield at all useful when Internet traffic is already being scanned with the ISA Server component?

I wonder if someone could reply to the question above.

I have disabled Web Shield on my SBS 2003 Premium server. Am I correct in thinking that Web Shield is redundant? Or does Web Shield scan something that the ISA plugin does not?

Thanks!

Hi kwg, sorry for the delay - I didn't find your post somehow...

Your assumption was correct. WebShield is meant as a desktop (workstation) provider and as such is included in avast Server Edition only for the Terminal Servers case.

The "Server Deployment Wizard" that gets automatically started after you install avast should disable it automatically (together with other desktop providers such as Internet Mail, Outlook/Exchange etc.)

Thanks
