Are you getting streaming updates?

Well if you look at the http://www.avast.com/virus-update-history and I don't recommend you do this right now (you have been warned) as there is an entry for 131009-0 update it is an absolutely huge list (which doesn't appear to have been released), the largest I have seen. So large firefox was struggling to load the page and navigate through it.

It looks more like a VPS optimisation of the database rather than an actual update.

Yes. I guess. I don't change much settings on my AV.

Okay. Everytime I got a popup message from Avast, especially updates, I always click on "More details..."
And this was my first time seeing "0 virus definitions were added".

Generally I don't look at stuff like that as it doesn't actually provide what I consider useful information.

The raw number of updates isn't that meaningful, virus signatures can be generic, etc. where they are capable of detecting multiple variants of a particular virus/malware. So the number of definitions added doesn't relate the the potential detections covered by that signature.

But it's still there as popup, and it's there for a reason. I just like to view what's in there in the popups, especially definition updates. Not all AV shows what the updates contains. AVG in particular, doesn't show any update info to it's users, how many definitions added, etc. Avast and ESET does show definition updates.

It may not be useful to you but for some, including me, I like to read updates.

The virus update history link that I gave provides more information than just raw numbers, but also the virus signature names that have been added. Not that that is particularly useful as it doesn't give detailed info on what that signature detects, just a listing of the signature names.

The virus-update-history is not working at the moment.

The latest information times out.

Because of what I mentioned in my Reply #2, the list is absolutely massive, it almost overpowers your browser when trying to load and manipulate it.

Even when i change the date to from beginning of this month to today its not working so Avast
has some problems there.

Of course changing the date won't work unless you exclude the large 131009-0 update the total size of the page will be massive.

How large is that update?

I don't know as that information isn't available on the update page.

How large is that update?
Large enough that I can honestly say that I have read shorter books.
This thing is absolutely huge. It took Chrome almost 30 seconds to load.
But then again I'm using an 8 MB connection.

Ya, have to agree with you there.  Good find. Took FF here 45 seconds to load the new tab, with a corresponding 'not responding message' and hang, just as DavidR said it would.

How did you find it?

Tabbing still not operating correctly after two minutes, easily the biggest one so far I've ever seen.  It's a book tome and a half and then some, what with it taking up the entire page.

[EDIT:]  Don't run java in any form just for this reason.   ;)
