Title: Strange...
Post by: StopMe on May 22, 2005, 07:34:34 AM
It started when I install Opera when my memory start up was slow.  Even after I remove Opera, my memory was too slow at start-up, Avast! and ZA start up slower than normal start-up cause I always see a red dot on avast! for a while and ZA icon wasn't even appeard untill the red icon was gone and avast! shield was running.   ???  Any ideas?

Try a registry cleaning program like CCleaner (http://www.ccleaner.com) to clean out the registry.

Have you deleted all  files in your windows prefetch folder?? Check to see if the

layout.ini file is there.

yes, P3T3bOnn is right. If you have no results, empty the temporary folder. If the result is the same, run "chkdsk /r": this remedy has been useful for me when I had lost my sistray icon of winpatrol

I just found out that it only happens on restart, shut down and turn on manually will just delay the appearance.  :(

Hi, FIXER! You know, the things in the prefetch folder are there only to speed up your download of the mostly used files and webpages. if the prefetch is too bigger, maybe it can be a problem because the memory waste alot of power to check for this cached files at system startup.
ADDED: empty prefetch don't resolve your problem. Try to empty the Temp folder.

Yes, no problem. Be in peace of mind deleting the prefetch.  ;) remember to reboot...

check back after a reboot and you will find most of them back in the folder.

The only gain would be if you removed a prefetch file for a program you had uninstalled.

Yes, Connie: this is the reason why my suggestion of empty also the Temporary files: the same when we schedule a scanning at reboot with our Avast! :)

That was my first choice, didn't work, only when I shut down my computer and turn it on manually, I don't see the red dot on the icon, just dosn't appear for a few seconds.

I hope you can tell me the location of Task Manager, I forgot where it is now.

at the same time you must push the keys ALT+CANC+DEL

You can create a shortcut on the desktop: open C:/ WINDOWS/SYSTEM32/TASKMGR.EXE (I don't remember well the name: is a little green squared icon)

I was thinking a good registry cleaner  (as previously suggested)   and I know Technical and suggested a little program that helps you organize how programs startup.     Im doing a search but cannot seem to find it..   grr  lol

Set the priority starting of every program is possible also with Task Manager. I use Code  Stuff Starter... http://codestuff.mirrorz.com/

ok, FIXER. Have you tried (in the Task Manager) to right-click on the Zone Lab process and set the priority on "low"? Is a delicate thing but you can try and reboot. Then come here again and post the result. I wait... The setting is reversible.

Dear Kamulko,

Cannot they change taskmanager to _root_taskmngr.exe; it is just a trick, like changing regedit.exe to _root_regedit.exe. Because root is root.
Sadly I had to take out  the monkey, because there were complaints about the size of my jumping avatar. I gave the monkey a face now , but is is still 108, that is an extra 8, but it is not that high, so squarely I am safe on size. Or would they complain again. Why some people cannot see the sun in the water? And the complaints are from the land where they sing " don't fence me in?"
OK. I comply, but with a bleeding heart. Did you finish your cappuccino, or did you have another.

Ciao,

POLONUS

You are a poet!  ;D About the Task Manager: maybe I have not explained well (in my english); I wish to say "Maybe is useful to create a link from TaskManager root to the Desktop". Sometimes the mind don't remember also the easy things.  :)

Ok, FIXER, reset the ZA on th normal value... I don't understand the reason of this behavior by the program... have you installed some new program/process that is starting before of Avast?

Yes, I remember Opera, but It seems very very strange. Maybe the mail provider included in Opera is causing this problem? Check the Services Panel and see if this Service is running. I have not other ideas, honestly  ???

Nope, I don't think Opera mail provider is causing it.  I check it and it's not there.  This is really strange.

It's okay, it just that it's odd that after installing Opera, I get this problem.  I have no virus, I use BitDefender Online scan and found nothing, I don't understand how come my memory start-up is this slow.  Even though i still have 207 MF of RAM left after start0up.  I wish I got 1 G.B. of RAM right now.
