Avast software updater does not seem to reflect the correct versions of Java. After updating Java and then re-starting windows 7 Avast shows local version as somewhat correct but also shows the new version which is a lower number. Shouldn't it be the other way around? Also how do I tell Avast to stop monitoring IM or P2P when I don't have these installed. After all who the hell uses IM anyway. Thanks vince

A screenshot of the software updater for this would be helpful.
Noticeably in the software updater for avast 2014 (9.0.2006) doesn't have a more details expansion link so doesn't display version numbers.

This really should have been on it own new topic as it isn't related to the original posters topic 'software updater.'
Try a repair of avast:
XP - Add Remove programs, select 'avast! Anti-Virus,' click the Change/Remove button and select Repair, click next and follow.
Vista, win7 - Control Panel, Programs & Features, uninstall a program, select 'avast! Anti-Virus,' click the Uninstall/Change and select Repair, click next and follow.
You may need to reboot after the repair.
This has in the past resolved this out of sync issue between reported and actual VPS version.
