Does anybody know how to update the anti-virus data wit FTP. I have a SFTP server that has all ports closed except the FTP en SFTP ports. I know that mc-afee has this option but I've bought Avast server edition.
Please help because otherwise I must buy Mc-afee for my company.
Thanks for you answer.

You can't access HTTP sites from the server? Is this an artificial limitation or a technical one?
-
this is an artificial limitation and a technical one, because of securety in our DMZ. There is now way to create a HTTP connection only a FTP or SFTP.
-
Hmm... we don't host any content on ftp sites.
Can't it go via HTTP to the Internet or even other machines on the LAN?
-
It is possible to FTP to a lan-server on our LAN network.
The SFTP server is connected with the DMZ on the Firewall. With this connection it possible to ftp to the LAN.

Unfortunately, without some crazy tweaking (like setting up a local HTTP mirror somewhere on the LAN and sharing its contents via ftp, so that a local HTTP mirror could be set up on the server), I don't see a way to solve this... :-(
Another way would be to download the vpsupd.exe (manual virus db update self-extract packages) to a machine on a LAN, sharing them via ftp and then having them executed on the server by a scheduler...

Thanks, for your reply, i can do something with it. So Avast will stay.
Many thanks for you sollutions.

The second solution is certainly much easier to implement than the first one.
