Dear Avast!,
I am having a problem installing and running Avast! Endpoint Protection version 8 on Windows 8.1
After upgrading windows to version 8.1 the entire Avast! program disappeared from all of our school computers.
Furthermore, the other / latest versions of Avast do not let me install using the above license file.
I need to resolve this problem as soon as possible. Please help!

There is just one thing at the moment you can try to do.
- Completele uninstall avast
- reboot
- check for leftovers (if there are any remove them)
- reboot
- install avast again
Microsoft has really screwed up the 8.1 update, there are all kinds of problems with it and not only with avast.
I've seen Windows Media player disappearing as well as many other software, systems not booting anymore and/or not shutting down properly, drivers suddenly failing etc etc.

I just tried to uninstall, but I did not see any Avast! installed to uninstall.
So I tried reinstalling the Endpoint install file that an Avast! employee told me to use over the phone (He told me to do this for windows 8 a few days ago, prior to my upgrade.)
After I reinstalled Avast! 8 (Endpoint) my computer restarted and went into a glitched/blue screen error. It did this twice in a row then went into Windows 8 Automatic recovery mode.
I told the computer to restore to the last known point and that appears to be what the computer is doing right now. I will report back with what happens next as soon as I can.

My computer recovered successfully. I have to have these computers updated and ready by tomorrow, so I am not certain what to do at this point... Should I install Avast! 9 and hope that the license file transfers over?

Give it a try. There is not much else you can do at this moment since the real problem is the 8.1 update which should be fixed by Microsoft.

The computer eventually started an automated restore process and is now functional again. I installed Avast! 2014 (version 9), however, unfortunately the education license file I was emailed does not work with version 9.

At least it is running again, that is already something.
As for the license, I would say calling avast seems the fastest way to solve it.
