Post by: krypton on October 20, 2013, 06:03:31 AM
hi avast.

i am using avast from more than 8 years and avast never disappointed me anytime. but from yesterday when i updated to new version 2014. it maked me disppointed. i cant find virus chest in new avast. even when i scan my pc, avast gets hang and i have to restart me pc. it is very slow when i scan my pc and then problem came from yesterday when i updated to new version. its new interface is really bad. in old look avast was indicating with voice system that avast database has been updated when avast updated automatically. but now no voice system i seen in this new avast. i was giving 10 stars from 10. but now i will give 1 star from 10 stars. i will use avast for few days. and if the problem keep continues i will go for another antivirus. so pleas fix this all problem.

How did you install new version..... on top of old?.....or did you remove old before installing?

I've also your first bug in avast 8.xx. I believe it was after I defragmented my HDD. I simply uninstalled avast using the avast uninstall utility and reinstalled from scratch.

When installing a new version, it's always best to uninstall the previous one using the uninstall utility and install the new one from scratch. It's a pain to configure all over again, but it's worth it.

The second error never happened to me, can't help you there.

As for virus Vault, open avast and on the left side you'll see statistics. Click it. The you'll see Component Status, again on the left side, click it. You'll have an icon named virus vault on the right. If you click it, it'll open the virus vault.

Sorry about my english. Also, my avast is in Portuguese, so I'm making a rough translation, but i hope it helps.

There is a voice when updated and scanned, seems like you need to re install avast, interface is pooh, but it does work apart from few bugs, I imagine the interface wil get better, could of at least give the option to resize it. If you click on home then right click on the boxes you can add virus chest and change what you want to see on that page.

Go to avast.com > support > downloads > uninstall utility ..... remove all previous used avast versions, reboot    and install new avast again

Any change?

Just a quick pointer.

Would it not be in the best interests of avast and its users if on the download page that it clearly states that an uninstall of a previous version would be advised.?

Better still perhaps this advice would be better suited being contained within the installer itself.
It may stop a lot of grief in  the long run.

Not really since avast always states that a user should be able to update over the top of a previous install.
For most this works well for others not so well. For those who have issues with an over the top install a
repair usually fixes the issue(s). If, and only if, a repair fails then a clean install is recommended.  :)

It wouldn't hurt to read what the info is for the error under Result column. Expand it and read it. Considering it's a TEMP folder, i'd say the error is file doesn't exist. Because it god deleted during the scan process by the original installer or container.

Did you install avast after updating windows? Maybe you have to update windows first and then install avast. Use Windows defender or MSE until you update windows, and them install avast.

I don't know the architecture of avast, but since it's a brand new version, problably a massive windows update is in order. The last time I formatted my laptop, i've had to download almost a 1.5gb of updates. It took hours to download and install. Specially the .NetFramework ones...

But yes, the new avast is full of bugs. At least there are people that try to help  :D

and avast automatically disables  3 sheilds. i never expected this so many bugs from avast.

What version of Comodo (v5.xx or v6.x) are you running along with Avast?  Is it just the Firewall / D+ (no Antivirus installed) or the complete Comodo Internet Security suite?  Did you install the whole suite first and then turn off the Comodo AV or did you do a custom install and unchecked the Comodo Antivirus part?

Save yourself the madness and headaches... since you are at a point where you have had to REINSTALL WINDOWS... just reinstall windows again and put the old version of Avast back on there...

As you have said multiple times and as is obvious by all the posts... the new version of avast is very buggy.  You are correct in saying that and you are not going crazy and you dont have any viruses

Considering there are 200,000,000 users, the few complaints in here indicate that the program is very stable.
I have no problems on my 5 computers and none on the many at the senior center where it's installed.
Using an old version is foolish and decreases your protection.
Find out the underlying causes and correct those and avast! will work as it should.

With all due respect sir... there are 200 Mil users of Avast... However, there are not 200 Mil users of the latest version...

The program doesn't notify of a new update unless you specifically go looking for it and that eliminates MOST people from that list.
Another segment, even if they do see there's an update don't bother because they are not tech savvy and/or don't care to update now
Another segment are tech savvy and are just waiting to see if there are bugs
Another segment just don't want to update because they like the version they have

This update only came out about 2-3 weeks ago... of that, there were plenty of complaints on these forums, enough so to call this a buggy piece of software as far as I'm concerned.  I am currently using it on two computers and for the most part it is functional (for me, even though I can list a dozen small bugs), but as was evident by all the posts in very short period of time... many users are having many issues and to classify them as a "few", is off.

I am an avid supporter of Avast, and it's ok to call it buggy... it doesn't undermine the fine people of avast or their great products and I'm sure they will fix it... but when someone has gone to the point of reinstalling windows trying to chase down the bugs... it's time to pack it up and just wait for avast to release a better version.

Using an old version is not foolish at all and with all due respect bob but your sentence would seem to convey the impression that earlier versions of avast were in some way weak.

Hi Troll,
Do you ever have anything useful to say?

The most recent versions use the most current ideas/technologies to help combat malware.

hi bob

as u said i m using old version in pc but i m using windows 7 ultimate 500gb hd 2gb ram and it is not old. avast can be used in old versions also bcoz avast is from last more than 12 years and i dont think so ppl using more than 12 years old os or version.

i m facing lot of problems in new avast 2014. i never posted this type of complaints bcoz old avast was really good and fast. i  posted before when i was using old avast bcoz i got some confusing problems and that problems get resolves. but this problem i am not able to resolve till avast releases new bug free update. new 2014 avast is very slow and also it scans so slow than old avast. i posted screen shot of my problem so there is no question of doubt in my problem. u can see i faced that icon problem 2 times and happens every day. see the date of the 1st screen shot and date of 2nd screen shot of my old posts. u will see i face this problem. i still use avast even after having lot of bugs bcoz i trust avast than anyother  antivirus. i want to say to avast developer to find all this bugs and fix it so we can enjoy avast as before.
