Can you please WARN that aswclear.exe and avastclear.exe are selfdeleting after use!!! >:(
Or even better allow the user to decide whether to let selfdelete or not!!!

I don't know how you have come to this conclusion, I've used both versions and they have always remained in downloads after running them.

I first had to manually remove 8.0.1497 with aswclear.exe – and after having done, aswclear.exe was gone – and later on I had to remove 9.0 with avastclear.exe – and again after having done that it is no longer there ... And no, it is not only invisible; copying both of them back to the work subdirectory created for that on the desktop did not give any "overwrite or not?"-warning!

I think the OP is trying his best to nitpick all that's avast related....he already created like 8 threads( that are visible on the first page) and all 8 of them are just to bash because his "vision" on how things shuld change are way...way better than avast's crew( and somewhere even of many forum users, as there were features discussed or even voted by users)

Total garbage .
I have used both these apps too many times to count when working on clients machines , I have NEVER once seen any avast clear " self delete".
It simply does not happen.

I have seen it disappear. If I d/l it to desktop after use it would clear after use. However, if d/l to my "Downloads" folder it would stay. Odd. :)

It is ofcourse just my opinion, but it looks like he is just a troll.
Almost anything he is complaining about is caused by the famous pebkac error.

Actually I have also seen it delete after use. But not recently.
Just to make sure, I make a copy of it before running.
Not sure whether it's anything to do with running in safemode or normal mode.

Actually ... it DOES happen. Yupperooni, it does.
It didn't used to. But, somewhere along the line, suddenly the last couple of times that I've used aswclear to uninstall avast 8, it HAS self-deleted after use. I figured avast had incorporated that by design. I wasn't aware that it's not supposed to happen.
And as a lot of you all know, I'm not a troll ;D ;D ;D ... so, you all can count on that if I say it has happened, yes, it HAS happened. I'd say about the last 3 consecutive times that I have used aswclear, it has self-deleted. I don't know if it's something OS-related or what.

No, it's not – as desktop cleanup is turned off!!

While it COULD have something to do with settings, it can't possibly be like a setting that gets rid of unused Icons / Apps because well ... the aswclear Utility just barely got through being used and BAMM! It's gone after the Restart.

The OP is actually correct...
If you run aswclear in normal mode (use the prompt to go to Safe Mode). Once your logged into safe mode, it automatically opens as the first program. Running the tool and rebooting causes it to get deleted. However, I think it remains in the temp folder.

Btw: I first started in safe mode (I did not run aswclear/avastclear when still being in normal mode to be told to start in safe mode); and from within safe mode, I started aswclear/avastclear – and both were selfdeleted.

I can confirm the selfdelete. I downloaded both exe's on 2 different XP Machines and ran one from normal mode and then continuing in Safe mode. In Safe mode I ran the other also. After returning in Normal Mode for installing version 9, I noticed both clear.exe's had gone. First I thought, I must be wrong, but than it happened on the second PC again. And now I read this topic. So yes, both exe's seem to be selfdeleting......

We all know that if you don't remove what you currently have before you install avast!,
you'll end up with a mess.
Do you personally stay on top of the constantly chaining removal tools ???

Thank you. And yes I sure do. Sometimes I miss one or two link but all in all people help when they see a link that's old. My program just downloads two small texts every time you start mg program. So u never have to check for updates.

Not to take sides but, I just downloaded avastclear.exe to my desktop (Win XP) then ran it in Safe Mode to uninstall avast free 9.0. The shortcut was not on the desktop after I restarted my PC. "Product successfully removed" displayed before restarting.
Not to hijack the thread but, my PC crashed after I installed 9.0. I'm just an average at best user, surprised I was able to resolve this issue from online research. I'm thinking about re-installing 8.0 if it is available. What do you guys that know this software recommend?

Just again on XP-SP3: copy avastclear.exe to desktop – restart in safe mode – start it – delete the stuff – make restart – and avastclear.exe is no longer on the desktop!

Check your download folder. :)

What "download folder"? The original download place was on another PC and it was copied over the network onto volume D: on that PC. From there it was copied onto the desktop (vol. C:) to be started in safe mode (what was done). There is a folder "My Received Files" inside "My Documents" - but that folder is totally empty!

Hmmm, I can only suggest to copy it to a subfolder, as backup.

That is what I do. I have a copy of the latest version in a folder where I keep all my installers. If I need to run it, I copy it to desktop and run it, and yes it removes itself afterward.

Sure – but that's not normal behaviour; it should not selfdelete without warning; maybe something got wrong – then you'll have to rerun it ... but it's gone ... :(

It's supposed to remove all of avast! that includes the tool used to do the job of uninstalling. It's called cleaning up after yourself.
Something we teach our kids who never remember. At least avast! does what it should do. :)

OK, I can accept that philosophy – but in that case, a warning window (with the info that also the a..clear.exe itself will be deleted) to click away should be mandatory!
Btw.: if you copy both aswclear.exe AND avastclear.exe onto the desktop, only the tools you were starting is gone; and the installer itself (and all the backup installers in some different places) are still there. ;) ... But that would really be offensive if that stuff would be deleted too!

@Eddy:respect , maybe 7 times turn tongue into your mouth before creating lots of troll even with your 9000 posts actif ;)

Technically, there should only be one removal tool. A job that still needs to be completed by Avast. :)

Yep – there should not be the necessity of an removal-tool – as the "built-in uninstaller" (that was installed at install) with the complete uninstall routines should be able to do the work; a restart (and remove the rests befor next system restart) is not forbidden.
