Title: 2014 IS Firewall Issues
Post by: spitfires on October 24, 2013, 07:38:58 AM
Hi, I did an in program update of avast to the new version 2014.9.0.2006 and am running into a few issues with the Firewall.

I have paid version of avast IS and have been Avast supporter for many years. Running Windows 7 64 bit.

My IDE program has a built in FTP that is being blocked by Avast Firewall. If I turn firewall off, it works. Turn it back on it is unable to connect.

Went to Tools -> Firewall -> Application Rules - Find the application and set to 'all connections' and 'Allow connections to all networks' outbound and inbound. And no joy! Still no connection.

Then if I check the firewall logs, for blocked traffic the last update was yesterday. I.E. it is not logging blocked traffic even though it is blocking my program.

Finally, my android phone is now blocked also after the Avast program update and my file explorer (ES File Explorer) is no longer able to see my PC in a scan. Yet if I turn off Firewall, it shows up. It is even blocked when the IP address for my device is in a valid range of IP addresses of Friends (Firewall -> Settings -> Friends) and under policies I have ticked 'Allow all connections with Friends when in Private mode'.

Please advise.

I have this same problem (Netbeans, uses a Java SDK). I have been trying for two days to allow this through the firewall and it just won't unless I disable the firewall. I pay a LOT of money to have this firewall, and now it's stopping me from earning money. You see where this is going, no money for me equals no money for Avast.

Can't work out at all how to get it to allow this through the firewall. Filezilla, using the FTP protocol works fine, but the built in FTP in NetBeans does not work.

Please explain how to get this working.

Avast 2014 firewall is also hiding (making unavailable) networked TV Tuners (Silicone Dust) to windows 7 Media center.

I have all the exclusions set correctly and double checked also.  This worked great in previous AVAST for over a year.  Update to AVAST 2014 (and confirmed settings) and no TV tuner for live or to record.  If you force / fix things it only works for a short while and they are not available again.

Restore point before AVAST 2014 upgrade seemed to work but then AVAST 8 said no license and couldn't start shields to I had to apply an image from before AVAST 2014 upgrade.

Seems the New firewall in AVAST 2014 has some major issues compared to the prior version.

Same issues here, the firewall simply doesn't work properly in Avast 2014. I've completely uninstalled Avast 2014 and will not use it, before Avast admits these problems and fixes them.

Hi, this problem is caused by dual-stack sockets (used by Java SDK, eclipse, MySql server, etc.. ) and binding to LISTENING IPv6 ports which are incorrect handled to IPv4 stack. Will be fixed next week. Thnx a lot for report.

I have similar firewall problems in that I can see other computers in my WORKGROUP, but can NOT login to them.
I went back to the FREE version and ALL works fine.
BUT I NEED MY PAID VERSION FIXED _TODAY _ NOT NEXT WEEK ! !

OR I need an extension to my expiration date for time LOST, so far about two weeks + until it's fixed.

Others having firewall issues - TRY the FREE version and ALL works fine.

Yes, I also have a paid version too and I always notice that if you let it lapse or used the free version until you get the new one, SOMEHOW you get a nasty virus that they want to send you to iyogi to PAY to get them to help you remove and this is a hard virus for even a seasoned professional to get rid of without them. BEWARE! I also got the new update and installed and TADA no firewall. I am a month away from my resubscription time and feel like something is up. Like some of you have stated. I am still on the PAID TIME of my version and this is starting to get annoying, I may be looking for a new AV soon. Or go back to ez antivirus, it had it's problems but it was small and didn't slow down my start up so badly.
AVAST! I hope you fix this issue soon without virus attacks we have to pay your people to get removed.... Kinda fishy!

Hi Jursa,

Good to know the Avast team is on this issue.

If the issue with the dual-stack socks can be addressed sooner in a micro-update ASAP that would be great.

For those of you who are bashing Avast service, I understand that this makes life difficult once in a while, but I have been an Avast paid user for many years and the service is so far vastly superior to Norton or the debacle that is McAfee. This is only my second issue in probably the last 4-5 years. If it is addressed quickly then Avast service continues to be good.

Dude... you are getting on a thin ice here with these totally unfounded accusations.  :o Yeah, somehow -- probably while downloading your daily pr0n collection dose from god knows where.  ::)

Well, you seem not to be around for a long time. Softwares have an EULA and if you read you'll see you cannot demand for this.
Although, you can ask for sales support here https://support.avast.com/

I have updated to the latest version (x.2007) where it says it fixes the issue with Java applets, however I am still getting the same issue as described above. So I am still having to disable the service I pay for in order to work from my computer...

The moment I disable the Avast firewall it works, so it is not the windows firewall causing issues. I had filed a support ticket, but all I got there was saying to set the firewall to public, well that obviously didn't work (did try anyway).

PS: Ignoring the fact you use captcha for every post (I assume until I reach x number of posts), you have a serious bug. I entered in wrong first time and went to post again but said I had already posted.

Sorry for the antispam measures. Yes, the captcha goes away with 20 posts.
Hope the programmers take a look in the firewall (that was, by the way, completely rewritten code).

Similar issues with 2014.9.0.2007     worked fine before i upgraded...I cant even get a reply to a ticket i filed in late October

A very simple question  the previous version allowed to open various ports, I have looked and looked cant find a way to open a port

I too am using a paid version, would be HAPPY to go back, but you CANT!!

When i turn off the firewall  the app works fine  its port 8080.

You can open a port of add rules by going to Settings > Active Protection > Firewall (click on the gear next to the On / Off slider) > Policies > Packet Rules.  Scroll down to the bottom of the list and you can ADD a rule there.  Hope this helps.

Hi, came across this while trying to fix the fact that I couldn't connect my ES File Explorer to my computer...
Found out that if you go to Tools>Firewall>Settings then in the first policies tab, tick Internet Connection Sharing mode.
This enabled me to FINALLY connect my phone to my PC, and to connect to other computers on the network (which at first I thought was a Windows 8.1 bug!)

Hopefully this helped someone, sorry if it's been posted somewhere else first!

hi there, I updated Avast Premier and after my computer restarted, the firewall won't connect. Anyone else witness this? If so, what was the reason for the firewall not connecting? Thx

Oh dear, seems like Avast bought their firewall from, or copied, Comodo, similar problems   ::)
