Title: After update Avast and Outlook won't work
Post by: lgurney on May 27, 2005, 05:24:12 PM
I have a user on my network that did the latest update, as prompted, and now Avast is giving warnings and her Outlook 2000 is reporting an illegal operation has occurred when she tries to login.  We have the latest version of Avast 4.6.665.  The operating system on the users computer is Windows 98 Second Edition.  The warnings that she is receiving from Avast are:

ERROR STARTING PROGRAM

The ASWENGIN.DLL file is linked to missing export ASWCMNB.DLL:?IsCharFolderSep@CStr@@QBE_NI@Z.

When you click the "OK" button, the following warning comes up:

C:Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashAvast.exe

A device attached to the system is not functioning.

I have no idea what device it is talking about.

Then the Avast won't open at all.  She also can not use her Outlook 2000, because the illegal operation error comes-up then it closes.

Please, help me to get this problem resolved.  I would be soooo greatful.

Thank you,

lgurney

Try an avast! repair. Go to "add/remove programs", click to "uninstall" avast. Then you will be given the option to repair it.

Search your disk for aswCmnB.dll - how many instances of the file (and where) do you have there?

Thank you, so much!  The repair on Avast worked.  I am glad that this problem had an easy resolution.

Thanks again,
