I had the free avast virus software and installed the trial of internet security which all worked fine. since paying for he internet security and inputting the licence I have been unable to access the internet. I also get a message saying the avast firewall cannot be turned on. What has gone wrong please. Can anyone help as I cannot get the internet on my PC now. (Lucky I've still got my netbook which still uses my old security software)

Have you rebooted a few times? If not, please do so and check if the problem is solved.
If not, use avastclear (http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility) to completely remove avast and do a clean install of AIS.

Hi lets do a full and clean reinstall
Download Rejzor's Uninstall Utility (http://rejzor.wordpress.com/avast-cleanup-tool/) to your Desktop.
Download the correct version of Avast
Avast Free (http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_free_antivirus_setup.exe)
Avast Pro (http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_pro_antivirus_setup.exe)
Avast Internet Security (http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_internet_security_setup.exe)
Avast Premier (http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_premier_antivirus_setup.exe)
Disconnect from the net
Uninstall Avast via control panel
- Unzip Rejzor's tool to the desktop
- Run the tool and accept the usage
- Once complete reboot your system
- Reinstall Avast

avastclear will not work, nor will using uninstall from control panel. I get a mesage saying an error occured but nothing more and it is still there. I am starting to get desperate. As I cannot download anything from th internet I have to get them on my netbook, transfer to a datastick, then transfer to th PC, so it is a real drag. I have requested help from avast, but don't know how long that will take. maybe I will have to do a system restore. What does anyone think please?

If it will not uninstall from control panel then run Rejzors tool only

Thanks for both replies and advice. I managed to get the avastclear working in the PC safemode and it seems to have now uninstalled OK. Have reinstalled the free virus software, but leaving the internet security until later. Hopefully I will get a clean install next time. Thanks again.

Hi kleinma have you nothing better to do with your time ? So one of your files has been flagged as a false positive, have you updated the VPS and checked it out ? Has the file changed since you sent it to Avast ?
Methinks you are going a tad overboard. Does no other AV have any false positives, or did you just get out of the wrong side of the bed ?

I am waiting to reinstall when I have time to concentrate on it. I am watching comments made and am a bit concerned about the negative stuff coming through, especially lack of service from Avast. I sent a ticket request through yesterday and still not had a reply so seems to back up what is being said. I am not skilled enough to be able to rely on products without easy access to support.

Yes I did and I appreciate that. However there are a few problems with that
I am new to this forum and not yet aware of the reliability of its contributors
It is not instant
There is no guarantee that I will get responses
I might not understand the responses
As my problem involved not being able to access the internet I would have had to make several trips to, and pay several fees for use of, the local library's PCs, had I not still got my old Netbook.
With my old provider I at least had a free telephone helpline, just a shame that their product isn't up to scratch.
I suppose you can't get everything you want!
I am grateful for the response I had, and they did lead me to the resolution. I just have to decide whether I dare download the Internet Security again.

On the main page you see at the bottom a list of people who are currently logged in.
Underneath that you see:
[Administrator] [avast! Evangelist] [avast! reseller] [avast! team] [avast! translator] [avast! Überevangelist] [Global Moderator]
In my opinion you can trust the response of all the people belonging in one of those groups.
Ofcourse we can not guarantee a that you will get a response (instantly).
Almost all of us are volunteers here and we do have our things to do in our personal life. (work, kids and things like that)
Don't worry if you don't understand a response.
Just say you don't and explain what you don't understand.
We will tell it in another way and we will keep trying to help you.
And as far for not being able to get everything you want... Most people want too much and/or things that are not possible. Be happy with what van get/have ;)

You can install the newest AIS with confidence. Please keep in mind that the issues you see posted here on the forums come from
an extremely small, minute percent of 200,000,000 users worldwide. The huge, vast percent who don't have issues very rarely post.
Myself and many others beta tested v2014 without any "real" issues. v2014 is the most "bug free" release of avast that I am aware
of (I started with v5.0).
