Hello. I am looking for a new, reliable, antivirus product and was recommended Avast. However, I find that I cannot use it as, after installation, several of my existing programs no longer work. Also, Avast informs me that my PC is not protected but I cannot enable any of Avast's modules. My Internet connection is also knackered.
I have tried all the trial versions of your product and all fail to work.
My PC is running Windows 7 SP-1 64bit, , 6GB DDR3 RAM

did you uninstall your previous used AV before installing avast?
General: Uninstalling a third-party antivirus software. http://www.avast.com/faq.php?article=AVKB11

Yes. I use a program called Acronis TrueImage. I use this to create regularly hard disk images. Before I installed Avast, I restored a disk image that I had taken before I had installed ANY antivirus product. I was aware of possible conflicts so I thought this was the best option.

I have just tried to install it again. Clean install, no other AV installed. The program appears to install correctly. The installation complete box appears telling me that a Quick Scan will take place. I have the Avast icons on my desktop.
However, nothing happens. In fact, it kills my Internet connection too so I have to revert to my iPad to get online help!
To be honest, I have spent long enough messing about with this. Unless someone can offer a working solution, Avast have lost a willing customer.

attach (not copy and paste) OTL diagnostic log http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53253.0
when done a log expert will have a look....
-
Do you want me to do this with or without Avast installed?
-
it does not matter....
-
OK. I have done as you requested. OTL was run without Avast installed.
Thanks for you help.
Edit: I have deleted the attachments as problem has been resolve. Thanks for your help.

I can see no apparent conflicts, something that I have seen work before is to install Avast in safe mode when all other drivers are inert, could you try that
-
Thanks. I will give that a try.
I appreciate your time.
-
WOW!
That worked!
Just entered Safe Mode (F8 at system boot), installed Avast. I have to say that after installation in Safe Mode, Avast didn't start a quick scan, in fact, I was thinking it was locked up again. However, on rebooting back into normal mode. Avast was there, working and so was everything else.
I do hope that I don't have issues with future upgrades etc.
Thanks for you time and patience. I would never of thought of installing a program in Safe Mode.

In safe mode only windows drivers are running so that any that would conflict with the installation are not active

First impressions are very good.
As I am trialling Premier, is it OK to disable the Windows Firewall? The Avast installation does not seem to have automatically disabled it and I was under the impression that it was a bad idea to have two firewalls running at the same time.
I realise that this is probably not the best place to ask, but I thought I would try!
Thanks.

They both work fine simultaneously.

They both work fine simultaneously.
With version 2014, the best advice is disable Windows Firewall imho. That's the default behavior of avast! setup right now if I'm not wrong.
