What special tool has been found on my computer that prevents Avast from doing a Browser Cleanup.
I don't know off hand of anything that should, and I'm certainly not going to give permission to any application to remove unspecified applications from my PC. If Avast knows what it is it should say so. If it doesn't then it shouldn't be advocating its removal.
Does anyone have any idea of what software would fall into this catagory.

Apparently there's a conflict between Avast 2014 and MalwareBytes' Antimalware. I have reported this when I first encountered this on Avast 2014.9.0.2006. Read this http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=136884.msg1001248#msg1001248
From there I got annoyed and simply uninstalled BrowerCleanup

I have had the same screen when AVG toolbar took the hand of my firefox (main page , search , ...).
Browser cleanup worked fine to delete it.
But it's right avast doesn't tell us what about before.

Apparently there's a conflict between Avast 2014 and MalwareBytes' Antimalware.
Thanks for the reference.
I do have Malwarebytes installed, but it's only the free version, and I can't find any reference to that having any redirection protection.
So if I assume the special tool is Malwarebytes, then if I let Avast do its thing, is it going to uninstall Malwarebytes, or simply break it in some way. Either way it would be rather "impolite", and almost a rouge action, but then I'm not prepared to take the risk.

As this tool is specified as being in a browser, perhaps you should look there. Tools that fall into this general category are:
- AVG toolbar
- An unspecified Browser Protector or Redirector

As the tool is unknown at this time to avast! as it does not know what it is, only that it is there, you get this one.
At least with this thread you now have something to work with, especially regarding settings use of Malwarebytes/avast!. ;D

Your welcome olddog! I too have the Malwarebytes' (Free Edition). As for me I let Avast Browser Cleanup do it's thing, but there wasn't any response from Avast Browser Cleanup nor from Malwarebytes (Free Edition). The link that I gave you, there was a reference of how to make malwarebytes' on the avast exclusion list and make Avast in the exclusion list in Malwarebytes'. I did that too, but nothing happened.
So I decided to uninstall the Avast Browser Cleanup. In Avast 8, this problem wasn't there!

Thanks for that. AVG has never been near this PC, was MSE before changing to Avast, and I don't have any add on toolbars (other than Avast On line Security, which seems to be classified as a tool bar). I use FireFox 25, and also have (but very rarely use IE 10. Those are the only two browsers that have ever been on this PC. I'll just maintain my browsers manually until/if avast get this working in a manner that doesn't required agreeing to delete unknown and potentially friendly applications.

Well, there's a tool for removing all traces left over from uninstall of MSE here: http://singularlabs.com/uninstallers/security-software/ (http://singularlabs.com/uninstallers/security-software/)
Run the MS Fixit tool, but not before creating a system restore point. Better safe than sorry. Disable avast! self-protection module first if you need to run that restore point you just created if there is a problem.
Just running this tool according to their instructions and then rebooting may help clear up glitches and some other issues you may have noticed after installing avast!, and also help speed and stability of your system.
Likely the issue with BCL will be addressed sooner rather than later in the next updated release or so.
