Title: New V4.1.278
Post by: larrytheotter on October 07, 2003, 10:36:16 PM
I have just tried to acquire v4.1.278 by right clicking the avast icon and choosing "updating/program update".  The completion of the download process is "package broken"!  If i download from the web site and re-install am I going to ruin anything I already have setup?

Is this a user error(me) or will the broken package issue be corrected soon?

larry,

Firstly, I didn't know that the Team had released a build 278.  The last build I was aware of was 268.  I will have to check on that.

Anyway, if the version you have now in place works, then I would leave things alone until the Avast Team can look into the "broken chain" problem.  If the problem is with the download, then it will only reoccur, or YES, it might affect the working version you have right now.

Other users have reported this, but I am not sure at this moment what the Team is doing about it.

Sorry I could not offer more information at this point.

 ???

Well, might it be that the servers are just too stressed and send invalid/incomplete data?

Someone suggesting that downloading the two files manually (using wget) worked for him... I wonder if that's a coincidence, that the manual download worked, or not...

4.1.278   Auto downloaded OK for me... seemingly no problems. :)

That could be. The reachability of the avast-servers had not been too good yesterday evening (speaking timezone +0200).

That worked for me. Perhaps there is a problem in avast! when downloading the updates and not having a good connection to the update-server (might it be a modem on the one side, or heavy load on the server-side)[1]?

Bye,
  ts :)

[1] I think you are using some sort of library/component to do the data-transfer so I can't really believe in a bug like that... but that was my conclusion after updating manually worked just perfect.

As much as I hate to say it, I think the number of bad upgrades is going to number in the thousands.  Mine was bad also.  Same problem.   "Broken Package." :-[

Use solution #1 found in this thread. I was able to update avast without any problems after getting the "Broken Package" message. http://www.avast.com/forum/index.php?board=2;action=display;threadid=1401

what if you didn't get a notice about any broken packages?

It won't install.
Incremental updates doesn't work, 'cause "a module is missing".
And I've tried to find a download that fixes this problem, to no avail.
could someone please help me?

ps.
I'm trying to upgrade from 4.1.268

This is completely unrelated problem.

Go to avast4\setup directory and copy setiface.ovr to setiface.dll. Then update program manually.

If that doesn't help, download full installer and upgrade.

HTH,

HTH,

Thanks kubecj. Update from 4.1.268 to 4.1.280 on Windows 98 (mantra´s OS) works great...  ;)
Hey you are working very late at the night there in Czeck...  ;)

Yup, it's 3:30 here. Going to sleep, it seems that 4.1.280 solved all problems (erm, all _known_ problems).

bye,
